North Carolina Democrats Crying Over Election Losses

North Carolina Democrats are sucking their thumbs over the shellacking they received this past election. Former state Senator Margaret Dickson isn’t taking her spanking lightly. She and a number of other progressives are throwing their ass over television campaign ads that were given at a discount rate to their opponents.

When a Republican loses he licks his wounds and moves on. When a Democrat loses, he hires a lawyer:

John Wallace, who represents Dickson, said he also represents two other Democratic incumbents who lost in November: former state Sen. Joe Sam Queen of Waynesville, who lost to Republican Ralph Hise Jr. of Spruce Pine for the 47th District in western North Carolina; and former state Sen. Don Davis of Snow Hill, who lost to Louis Pate of Mount Olive for the 5th District in the Greenville area

The lawsuit says that when American Media bought the advertising time from local TV stations, the stations were told that the ads were for the candidates. The suit says the stations have a practice of providing cheaper rates to candidates than they do for organizations such as the Executive Committee, so the committee likely got a 20 percent to 50 percent discount on the airtime.

Wallace said that when the Stand By Your Ad law is broken, the statute says that the opponent's legal remedy is to sue. The opponent can collect up to triple damages. It's not clear how much money Dickson and the other candidates would be entitled to should they win.

Margaret Dickson may have an axe to grind against her opponent Wesley Meredith. Some thought that an ad portrayed her as a prostitute. I guess there is more than one way a prostitute can make money.
