Obama Wants Senate to Stop Playing Politics With Jobs Bill

Barack Obama used his weekly address to warn the Senate not to play politics with his jobs bill. Somebody should tell the president that it’s his own party that won’t let Stimulus 2.0 reach the floor:

On Thursday night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) triggered the so-called nuclear option — unilaterally changing Senate rules by a simple majority vote to stop the minority from forcing votes on uncomfortable amendments. It’s the same tactic the majority would use to undercut the minority’s ability to filibuster. And that’s why it’s called “nuclear” — it dramatically alters the balance of power between the majority and minority. It is not a step to be taken lightly.

What great matter drove Reid to push the nuclear button? Apparently Republican leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) was threatening to force a vote on the original version of President Obama’s jobs bill, to show how few Democrats were willing to support it. In other words, Reid invoked the nuclear option to avoid a political embarrassment for his party.

Obama asserts that reputable economist back his plan. Do these economists have amnesia? Because Son of Stimulus is a bastard just likes its father. And this bill will be nothing more than another boondoggle.

What’s really galling is how clueless Obama is. Not all construction workers are road and bridge builders. He acts as though none of these trades are specialized; that anyone can come off the street and throw up a bridge. That maybe so in the community organizing business, but not in construction.

I hope when 2012 comes around the American people elect a president who is worthy of the office, and not a back-bench agitator with catchy slogans.
