David Brooks Doesn't Like the Crease in Herman Cain's Pants
David Brooks, the self-styled elitist insider, doesn’t like the crease in Herman Cain’s pants. According to this New York Times snob, the Hermanator is minor league. He is the equivalent of a short lived television sitcom with no prospects of a late night Nickelodeon re-run. Here is a comment he made on NPR:
“There was no beginning,” Brooks said. “He was a TV show that lasted for a little while. Let me stand up for elitist insiders — this is a job for professionals. Running for office is a job for professionals. Governing is a job for professionals. What Herman Cain did this — let’s leave aside the harassment, his handling of this was completely unprofessional. Every amateur candidate knows how to do a better job than this. You find the information, you lay it out clearly. And he couldn’t do the ABCs of running for office. So, as far as I can tell, he is what he has been — an entertaining, very likable TV show, who will — when it actually comes time to cast votes — people are going to go with the only one candidate who seems plausible.”
As for his success to date, where he is either tied or winning in many polls, Brooks chalked that up to it being the early going in the nomination process.
“That’s because we’re in the silly season,” Brooks said. “Why not go for the guy who makes you feel good? It’s free and it’s easy.”
Now, mind you David Brooks is a republican. This is the same man who was transfixed by Barack Obama’s pants. That says a lot about a person. But more importantly he admits he is a sap for believing the Anointed One’s rhetoric:
The president believes the press corps imposes a false equivalency on American politics. We assign equal blame to both parties for the dysfunctional politics when in reality the Republicans are more rigid and extreme. There’s a lot of truth to that, but at least Republicans respect Americans enough to tell us what they really think. The White House gives moderates little morsels of hope, and then rips them from our mouths. To be an Obama admirer is to toggle from being uplifted to feeling used.
The White House has decided to wage the campaign as fighting liberals. I guess I understand the choice, but I still believe in the governing style Obama talked about in 2008. I may be the last one. I’m a sap.
Yes you are David Brooks. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence could have discerned the duplicity of Barack Obama, but it takes an elitist insider to be mesmerized by a crease in someone’s pants.
