N.C. Liberal Rags Complain About Medicaid Expansion

The liberal rags in North Carolina must believe that the citizens of this state are completely devoid of critical thinking.  This Sunday’s paper is full of condemnations and recriminations of our representatives in Raleigh for not setting up state exchanges and expanding Medicaid.  And as usual they are completely vacuous on the ramifications of flooding our healthcare system with 500,000 new consumers with an Obamacare EBT card.

Is it too much to ask reporters and editors of a newspaper to have a basic understanding of economics?  What is happening around the country is insurance premiums are skyrocketing.  Many families are finding out they can’t afford this federal government scheme.  And those “lucky” enough to qualify for a subsidy, I ask – where does everybody think this money is coming from?  Santa Claus?

Of course, these purveyors of the news are so arrogant; they believe there is no other source of information that exists besides them.  An editor at the News and Record published an op-ed stating that because North Carolina refused to setup a state exchange, we have less competition.  Well, that’s happening around the country, whether a state established an exchange or not.  Take a look at a blue state that’s participating in this fiasco:

Hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans opened the mail last week to find their health insurance plan would no longer exist in 2014 because it does not cover all the essential benefits required by the Affordable Care Act.

The news surprised some who were unaware that provisions in the new law known as “Obamacare” were forcing insurance companies to scrap some plans they had previously offered.

“The Affordable Care Act is driving many changes to products and pricing,” said Thomas Vincz, a spokesman for Horizon. “Horizon BCBSNJ is actively working to help our members find new insurance plans that meet their needs and budget.”

The changes will impact more than 800,000 people in New Jersey who purchase insurance on the individual and small-employer markets, according to Ward Sanders, president of the New Jersey Association of Health Plans.

Geez, weren’t we told we would see a reduction in premiums?  Weren’t we told that you can keep your current plan?  I wonder if these new plans will allow you to keep your doctor, as promised by Barack Hussein Obama.   Somehow, I don’t believe it will.  And it’s happening all around the country.

I have to laugh.  The Charlotte Observer published Ned Barnett’s op-ed on page 27A.  On page 26A, the Disturber published another opinion piece on the incompetence of North Carolina’s Secretary of Health and Human Services.  It seems they’re upset about not getting answers on the state’s Medicaid fiascos.  Here is an excerpt:

Wos, North Carolina’s secretary of health and human services, has repeatedly complained about press coverage of her department and both press and public requests for information about it. Just to make sure that no pesky journalists bother her, she also travels with an escort who keeps reporters from asking her questions.

It is flabbergasting that on Tuesday, when legislators grilled Wos and her department about its poor performance in paying Medicaid providers, Wos took time to whine about public-records requests.

Capitol Broadcasting Co. reports that when asked about a critical report of her department’s behavior that appeared on the North Carolina Health News website, Wos first noted that she hadn’t read the piece and then complained about the many records that the website’s reporter and other members of the public had requested since she took her job.

We find her response troubling on two fronts.

First, we find it disconcerting that Wos would ignore an investigative story about her department that was published by a distinguished health-news outlet. The report raised serious questions about her agency’s truthfulness when dealing with the legislature and public.

Second, we’re sorry that the records requests inconvenience Wos, but we would remind the good doctor that the public has a right to know what its government is doing, especially the biggest department of its government, one that spends billions of tax dollars annually and that is doing a poor job of paying Medicaid providers

These are the same idiots that want to add 500,000 more people to Medicaid!  I kid you not!  All you can do is laugh at this insanity.
