The Haunting

Today’s horror movies are more about gore and special effects than an effective plot line.  For the past 30 years, slasher and zombie movies have taken over the genre.  They are more designed to gross out the audience than scare them.

One movie made in the 1960’s is the antithesis of today’s shock movies.  The Haunting is notable for its lack of an actual villain.  The protagonist, along with the audience never sees who is actually terrorizing them.  Horror is left to one’s imagination, and that in itself can be scarier than a knife wielding maniac.
