‘Tis the season of All Hallows Eve when suspense and
the macabre are accompanied by the drop of temperature and leaves. It is the time of year when old tales and
poems are dusted off and retold. And what
writer better personifies these than Edgar Allan Poe.
It has been determined that the malady that took Poe’s
life was rabies, possibly contracted from an animal he had a deep affection
for: a cat.
Here is a short story and a poem by the famed author. One is of a black cat and the other of a dying
man with symptoms that eerily could be rabies.
