Senator Kay Hagan Out of Touch With North Carolinians

Senator Kay Hagan is out of touch with North Carolinians. The citizens of this state overwhelming passed a constitutional amendment recognizing marriage as between one man and one woman.  Hagan sees things differently.

Hagan, one of the few Democratic senators who had not voiced support of gay marriage, made her announcement as the U.S. Supreme Court hears arguments on a federal law that denies federal benefits to married same-sex couples.

“I know there are strong feelings on both sides, and I have a great deal of respect for their opinions,” Hagan said in an interview. “But after much thought and prayer on my part, this is where I am today.

“I know all our families do not look alike,” she added. “We all want the same thing for our families. We want happiness; we want health, prosperity, a bright future for our children and grandchildren. After conversations I’ve had with family members, with people I go to church with and with North Carolinians from all walks of life, I’ve come to my own personal conclusion that we should not tell people who they can love, or who they can marry. It’s time to move forward with this issue.”

Does anyone remember the ad candidate Hagan aired on television denouncing Senator Dole for questioning her “Christian values”?  I guess Mrs. Dole wasn’t too far off.  Was she?

Not only is Senator Hagan out of step on this issue, she forced Obamacare down our throats, and passed a monstrous spending bill that – surprise, surprise – didn’t help the economy at all.  Any thinking person could of, and did warn us of this misguided policy.
It’s time for Kay Hagan to go.  And if it weren’t for the 17th Amendment, she would’ve already been recalled.

Progressives Call North Carolinians Un-Evolved for Passing Amendment One

The Progressives are aghast that 61% of North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment favoring traditional marriage. The common sneer from the so-called enlightened left is we hayseeds are un-evolved; we troglodytes are living in the past; and that we’re Jim Crow adherents stomping on the “rights” of gay people.

What is it about Progressives that give them a superior sense of being? And why do they denigrate traditional values? Is their utopian civilization built on the ashes of religious institutions?

One of the biggest proponents of traditional marriage is the church. This institution is the lynchpin of the family unit. Sweden exemplifies the simultaneous degradation of church and marriage. Here is an excerpt from a paper written by Professor Richard Tomasson at the University of New Mexico:

There are two forces that have sustained and enhanced the decline of marriage and the increase in nonmarital cohabitation in Sweden since the 1960s: secularization and the development of the comprehensive welfare state.

All major western religions have supported traditional marriage. When the authority of religious belief and its functionaries become diminished, traditional marriage loses one of its greatest institutional supports. In Sweden religious belief and practice and the role of organized religion in everyday life have declined to the lowest levels among modern societies. Weekly attendance at religious services has declined to the low single digits. Still, the large majority of the population continues membership in the Church of Sweden, a situation of "belonging but not believing." Most of the declining number of marriages are church weddings, a majority of children continue to be baptized and confirmed, and the great majority are buried by the Church.

The proponents of same sex marriage pooh-pooh the belief that their union would denigrate the institution itself. The Dutch experience would say otherwise, as reported by the National Review:

Since the start of the Dutch gay-marriage debate–in which gay-marriage activists successfully made the case for separating civil marriage from the legal rights and duties involved with the raising of children–the percentage of Dutch babies born out of wedlock has skyrocketed. As Stanley Kurtz has also pointed out (here and here), in the 15 years since the beginning of the long march toward gay marriage, the illegitimacy rate in the Netherlands has risen from 11 percent (1989) to over 31 percent (2003).

As it turns out, 1989–the year in which gay-marriage campaigners filed their first legal challenge to the existing marriage laws–is something of a tipping point in marriage statistics as well. Before that year, both the absolute number of marriages and the marriage rate (number of marriages per 1,000 people) were on an upward trend. Since 1989, however, that upward trend has turned into a downward slope, from more than 95,000 new marriages in the peak year 1990 to just over 82,000–including 1500 gay marriages–in 2003. This equals a decline in the marriage rate per 1,000 people from 6.4 at its peak in 1990 (out of a population of under 15 million) to just 5.1 in 2003.

Proponents of same sex marriage crow they are making strides for their purported goal of “equal rights.” They point to polls that show the public is coming around to their side. But at what cost? Are we to become just like Sweden and the Netherlands? Will Americans become permissive and secularized? The Progressives and their ACLU bullies have answered that question for us.

Gov. Beverly Perdue the "Progressive Belle" of N.C. Bemoans Loss of Hedonist Southeast

Governor Beverly Perdue is upset that North Carolinians overwhelmingly voted for passage of a state constitutional amendment that values traditional marriage. The one term politician thought the Tar Heel state should be more like San Francisco than Mississippi. Here is the “Progressive Belle” disparaging the hayseeds that infest her Hedon of the Southeast:

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Passage of a constitutional amendment defining marriage as solely between a man and a woman makes North Carolina "look like Mississippi," Gov. Beverly Perdue said Friday.

Perdue was in Greenville as part of her tour to tout her proposed state budget for 2012-2013. The governor was responding to a question on the amendment from a reporter from WITN-TV in Washington.

"I think it's wrong for North Carolina, clearly and simply," she said. "People around the country are watching us and they're really confused, to have been such a progressive, forward-thinking, economically driven state that invested in education and that stood up for the civil rights of people, including the civil rights marches back in the '50s and '60s and '70s.

"Folks are saying, 'What in the world is going on in North Carolina?' We look like Mississippi."

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant took offense at Perdue's comment.

"I am certainly disappointed by Gov. Perdue's statement regarding North Carolina's 'looking like Mississippi,'" Bryant said in a statement. "Apparently, North Carolina's voters are much more in line with Mississippi's traditional values on marriage than those of Gov. Perdue."

The chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party also issued a statement, saying his state is proud to stand with those who voted for the amendment in North Carolina and people in other states who support traditional marriage.

"Gov. Perdue is obviously out of touch with the voters of her own state and is trying to change the subject by attacking Mississippi," Mississippi GOP chairman Joe Nosef said

Perdue is so out of touch that she didn’t bother to run for re-election. Nor will she share the spotlight at the Democratic National Convention in her own state. I ask who should be more ashamed: Governor Beverly Perdue of North Carolinians, or North Carolinians of Beverly Perdue.

I believe her absence in the governor’s mansion next year answers that question.

Progressives Want to Move Democratic National Convention Out of North Carolina

The Democratic Party are ruing the day they picked Charlotte, North Carolina to host their national convention. Yesterday, we hayseeds voted for a constitutional amendment that preserves the sanctity of marriage. This reaffirmation of American traditional values isn’t sitting right with “Progressives.”

Progressive forces are petitioning the Democratic Party to move its convention out of North Carolina in protest of the state’s recently enacted ban on gay marriage.

“In protest, the Democratic National Convention Committee should MOVE its convention (September 2012) to a state that upholds values of equality & liberty, and which treats ALL citizens equally,” the petition states.

Initiated by Gay Marriage USA, a gay rights advocacy group, the petition has already attracted 14,946 signatures on its way to an anticipated 20,000.

I hope they succeed. I don’t live too far from “uptown” and will be affected by this psycho circus. The last thing I want is a bunch of anti-American heathens destroying personal property and harassing the citizens of this city. As a matter of fact, if I thought it would keep this scum out of town, I would sign the damn petition myself.

Charlotte Observer Bemoans Passage of Traditional Marriage Amendment

Yesterday, the citizens of North Carolina joined thirty other states in amending its constitution, reaffirming traditional marriage. For those who are traditionally impaired, marriage means a union between one man and one woman.

Of course, the so-called Progressives are up in arms over this definitive alteration to our Constitution. They believe this act was unnecessary. We already have a law that prohibits same sex marriage. So what is the big deal?

Well leave it to the libtards at the Charlotte Observer to outline all sorts of preposterous scenarios. Here is one of them:

And judges might refuse to issue domestic violence protection orders in cases involving unmarried couples and throw out orders already issued. Under this amendment, North Carolina doesn’t appear to recognize them as having legally-defined personal relationships.

So the editors at the Charlotte Observer would have us believe that Amendment One prohibits restraining orders on non-married persons? Get real morons! Here is another gem from the Disturber:

Duke University professor Mike Munger told the Observer editorial board Tuesday that domestic partner benefits “clearly are in jeopardy.” Unmarried couples who get domestic partner insurance benefits from local governments could lose them. “It’s not clear it’s legal” under the amendment for the governments to offer them, Munger said. Chapel Hill, Durham, Greensboro, and Mecklenburg and Orange counties now provide health care benefits to domestic partners and their children.

Again this is quite simple, get married if you want benefits. Why should the taxpayers subsidize a public employee’s hedonistic lifestyle? And do they seriously believe children of an employee are going to be denied health care benefits? That is an absolutely fatuous statement.

Here is another example of perverse Progressive logic.

Proponents like Rep. Paul Stam, who has been the top legislative cheerleader for the amendment, have said the amendment isn’t likely to have those impacts. But in truth, they don’t know. That’s why many legal scholars expect the courts will adjudicate the matter. Some say the amendment itself is unconstitutional and is just inviting a federal lawsuit challenging its validity.

We hope there is a challenge to this misguided amendment. It was unnecessary. N.C. law has banned same-sex marriages since 1996. This change unwisely writes discrimination into the state constitution.

So if the constitutional amendment is prejudicial and discriminatory, wouldn’t logic render the preceding law the same? According to the Disturber, in their twisted way, the law against same sex marriage is a violation of gay and lesbians civil rights, and should have been challenged in a federal court. But somehow that conclusion didn’t make it into their commentary.

The interlopers at the Charlotte Observer are having a hard time with the poll results. Here is their partying shot at people who value traditional American values:

The state is on the wrong side of history on this matter. Most Americans are increasingly rejecting this type of prejudice against gays and lesbians. A new Gallup poll showed 50 percent of Americans believe same sex marriages should be recognized as legal, while 48 percent say such marriages should not be legal.

Unfortunately, for the commie/hedonist at the Charlotte Observer – 61% of North Carolinians overwhelmingly voted for Amendment One. And every state that has proposed a constitutional amendment upholding traditional marriage has passed it.

Maybe, the editors at the Disturber would feel more at home – let’s say – in San Francisco. Just saying.
