North Carolina's Grecianesque Legacy Cost
Hey North Carolinians, if you think progressive states like California have been fiscally irresponsible, than you need to take a look at what has happened in our own back yard. It seems the Democrats have left us a legacy almost as Grecian as – dare I say it – Greece. Carolina Journal reported the following:As of June 30, 2010, the state had obligated taxpayers to $60.7 billion in debt, with only $23.1 billion in assets that could be used to pay that debt, leaving an unfunded liability of $37.6 billion.
That means the state has put each taxpayer $14,800 in debt, the report says. The financial burden on North Carolinians is worse than that on taxpayers in 34 other states, landing not too far behind California and New York on a scale of indebtedness. State officials challenge the methods used by the study and say the state's debt situation is much less dire than the institute reports.
A large chunk of North Carolina’s $60.7 billion in future obligations represents health care benefits promised to state employees when they retire.
The institute determined the unfunded liability for retiree health care benefits is $32.9 billion, a larger sum than indicated a year ago in a Carolina Journal report. Unfunded pension benefits make up another $2.5 billion of the debt.
Despite a constitutional requirement that North Carolina government maintain a balanced budget, the state also has accumulated $15 billion in bonds and $16.1 billion in other liabilities. The state can borrow money for capital needs and emergencies, but not for normal operating costs.
Instead of setting aside money for future obligations, most states have been shifting the costs to future taxpayers, the report says. “This is especially true in relation to employee compensation costs, which include retirement benefits.”
Because pension and health care benefits are not immediately payable in cash, states ignore most of these compensation costs when calculating annual budgets, the report continues.
If North Carolina can’t get it fiscal house in order, it will take more than tar on people’s heels to keep them in this state. We will end up like California: a state that consists of illegal aliens, freeloaders, and trial lawyers.

N.C. Democratic Party is Not The Only Organization With a Credibility Problem
The Daily Caller released a story that should have headlined all the major newspapers in North Carolina: The Democratic Party is caught covering up a sexual harassment case.Out of all of the major newspapers that litter North Carolina, the News and Observer is the only one that reported it:
A member of the party’s executive committee, Watt Jones, sent a complaint to Party Chairman David Parker in March asking about the allegations and financial settlement with the former employee, urging him to “clean up this mess before it gets worse.”
“If this hits the media, the Democratic Party, our candidates and our credibility are doomed in this election,” wrote Jones, according to a copy obtained by The News & Observer
The staffer’s firing has caused consternation within the party ranks for months. A party spokesman told The News & Observer in December he could not comment on an internal personnel matter.
Soon after the staffer left, former longtime party administrator Sallie Leslie quit. “The unethical actions by party leadership, of which I will not be a part of or have my reputation be associated with such” caused her to leave, she told The News & Observer on Friday.
Let’s get this straight. The News and Observer knew about this back in December and didn’t report it. If this had been the Republican Party, these leftist rags would have headlined this scandal all the way to November.
The Democratic Party isn’t the only organization that has a credibility problem; so do the newspapers in North Carolina.

NC Forum Declares Wind Farms Costly and Inefficient

“Because of the wide fluctuations of wind, it typically produces less than 30 percent of its nameplate capacity,” Droz said. “This problem is made worse by the fact that there is no practical or economical way to store the electricity produced.”
Wind power plants aren’t compact either, he added. They cover more than 1,000 times the surface area of a conventional facility.
North Carolinians had an opportunity to voluntarily add renewable energy sources to the grid; it was roundly rejected. But that didn’t stop Governor Beverly Perdue and the democratically controlled General Assembly. In 2007, they passed a law called Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards, which mandated power companies employ 7.5% renewable energy sources. This arrogant piece of legislation will cost consumers millions of dollars.
Governor Beverly Perdue and her fellow democrats profess that they’re looking out for the middle-class, when in fact they’re outright hostile. And in this economic environment, no one can afford higher utility bills.

Grand Jury Indicts Gov. Beverly Perdue's Campaign Team

Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby launched a criminal investigation of the Perdue Committee in October 2010. The same month Carolina Journal reported that Reichard and Stubbs were the key players involved in obtaining “aircraft providers” for the Perdue Committee.
Governor Perdue and her cronies are an embarrassment to this state. I’ll be surprised if she gets re-elected next year.

N.C. Democrats Claim Redistricting Suppresses Women
Democratic women in North Carolina are complaining about the newly redrawn districts. They believe it’s about gender warfare, where they are the victims of an evil plot to suppress their voice.
“The Republican redistricting plan was another assault on women,” said state Rep. Deborah Ross in the video. “More women were put in a double bunking situation — which means either they were put with another Democrat or they were put in with a Republican — than we’ve ever seen.”
“There’s six women who serve in the Senate, three of us have been double-bunked,” said state Sen. Linda Garrou. In the House, of the 20 Democratic women, six were “double-bunked.”
“We’re losing half of the women who represent us,” bemoaned state Rep. Susan Fisher.
“All of these women were targeted and that’s disturbing,” added state Rep. Earline Parmon.
Of course that is absurd. If anything this is an ideological battle and they lost. North Carolinians are sick of having the highest tax rates in the southeast and state budget that is a basket case, thanks to decades of democratic rule.
Here is an example of the stupidity of one of the complainers in the above video and one of the reasons why North Carolina overwhelmingly voted republican this past election:

North Carolina Democrats Throw Their Heritage Under the Bus
North Carolina democrats have just thrown their heritage under the bus. The annual Vance-Aycock dinner is no more. The two ex-revered democratic Governors no longer emblazon the masthead of the western state fund raiser. It’s now called the Western Gala. Why did this storied state party abolish the two most famous democrats in its history? Here is a short synopsis by the Winston-Salem Journal:
Zebulon Vance was a veteran of the Confederate army who also served as governor during the Civil War. But most of the criticism centered on Charles Aycock, who served as governor from 1901 to 1905.
Aycock is remembered as a strong proponent of public schools, which led to his being known as "the Education Governor." His name adorns schools and other public buildings across the state, and a statue depicting him stands on the grounds of the old state Capitol.
But he was also a leader of the "White Supremacy Campaign" in 1898, which dislodged the black and white Republicans and Populist Party members who controlled state politics. Aycock oversaw the codification of some of North Carolina's earliest Jim Crow laws, and the 1898 election led to a bloody uprising against Republican leadership in Wilmington in which white mobs killed scores of people.
"With that kind of record, it's very hard to make those kinds of guys your patron saints in the contemporary context," said Harry Watson, director of the Center for the Study of the American South at UNC Chapel Hill.
"The black Democrats are angry and the white Democrats are embarrassed, and probably also angry, at the idea of the party continuing to venerate Charles Aycock when he was elected to office campaigning in favor of disenfranchisement and in favor of violence to support it," he said.

Charles Brantley Aycock was born on November 1, 1859, on a farm near Fremont in Wayne County, North Carolina. Though his father died when he was 15, his mother and older brothers recognized his abilities and determined that he should go to college. After graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1880 with first honors in both oratory and essay writing, he entered law practice in Goldsboro and supplemented his income by teaching school. His success in both fields led to his appointment as superintendent of schools for Wayne County and to service on the school board in Goldsboro.
His political career began in 1888 as a presidential elector for Grover Cleveland, when he gained distinction as an orator and political debater. From 1893 to 1897 he served as U.S. attorney for the eastern district of North Carolina, and he was elected governor in 1900. His greatest achievement in office was in education, to which he was dedicated after watching his mother make her mark when signing a deed. He felt that no lasting social reform could be accomplished without education. He supported increased salaries for teachers, longer school terms, and new school buildings; almost 3000 schools were built during his administration. Other reforms he supported included laws to establish fair election machinery, to prevent lynching, to erect a reformatory for boys, and to restrict child labor.
He resumed his law practice in 1905, but in 1911 he yielded to pressure to seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate. He died on April 4, 1912, while campaigning.
And now Zebulon Vance:

Zebulon Vance was born on May 13, 1830, in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Forced to withdraw from college in 1844 when his father died, he later studied law at the University of North Carolina from 1851 to 1852. He received his county court license, settled in Asheville, and was soon elected county solicitor. He served in the North Carolina House of Commons in 1854 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1858 to 1861. Though he supported the constitutionality of secession, he was an ardent Unionist, not favoring secession until President Lincoln called for troops in 1861. He then organized and served with the Rough and Ready Guards.
Elected governor in 1862, he worked during the war to insure legality in the harsh conscription practices of the Confederacy and to guarantee protection of the law to North Carolinians. After being arrested at the end of the war and being briefly imprisoned, he returned to his law practice. Though elected to the Senate in 1870, he could not serve because he had not yet been pardoned. As governor from 1877 to 1879, he worked to revive the state's economy, agriculture, and industry and to improve schools.
From 1879 until his death he served in the U.S. Senate, where he was a popular and effective mediator between North and South. Hard work undermined his health and led to the loss of one eye. He died in Washington, D.C., on April 14, 1894, and after services in the Senate Chamber was buried in Asheville, North Carolina.

North Carolina Democrats Crying Over Election Losses
North Carolina Democrats are sucking their thumbs over the shellacking they received this past election. Former state Senator Margaret Dickson isn’t taking her spanking lightly. She and a number of other progressives are throwing their ass over television campaign ads that were given at a discount rate to their opponents.
When a Republican loses he licks his wounds and moves on. When a Democrat loses, he hires a lawyer:
John Wallace, who represents Dickson, said he also represents two other Democratic incumbents who lost in November: former state Sen. Joe Sam Queen of Waynesville, who lost to Republican Ralph Hise Jr. of Spruce Pine for the 47th District in western North Carolina; and former state Sen. Don Davis of Snow Hill, who lost to Louis Pate of Mount Olive for the 5th District in the Greenville area
The lawsuit says that when American Media bought the advertising time from local TV stations, the stations were told that the ads were for the candidates. The suit says the stations have a practice of providing cheaper rates to candidates than they do for organizations such as the Executive Committee, so the committee likely got a 20 percent to 50 percent discount on the airtime.
Wallace said that when the Stand By Your Ad law is broken, the statute says that the opponent's legal remedy is to sue. The opponent can collect up to triple damages. It's not clear how much money Dickson and the other candidates would be entitled to should they win.
Margaret Dickson may have an axe to grind against her opponent Wesley Meredith. Some thought that an ad portrayed her as a prostitute. I guess there is more than one way a prostitute can make money.

Harry Reid's North Carolina Embarrassment
Three out of the top five on this list originated out of North Carolina. I guess we're the joke of the nation. Thank you Senator Kay Hagan and the North Carolina congressional democrats for this embarrassment.
