Rasmussen Poll: The Ghost of John C. Calhoun Has Risen

Americans have always cast a suspect eye on the federal government.  It’s in our DNA.  But we haven’t seen this amount of distrust since the times leading up to the Civil War.

The Supreme Court didn’t help the central government’s case when rogue justices rewrote Obamacare and declared same-sex marriage is a new right.

The result of all this extra-constitutional activity has awaken the ghost of John C. Calhoun.  Rasmussen has a new poll that States’ nullification is on the rise.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 33% of Likely U.S. Voters now believe that states should have the right to ignore federal court rulings if their elected officials agree with them. That’s up nine points from 24% when we first asked this question in February.  Just over half (52%) disagree, down from 58% in the earlier survey. Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Perhaps even more disturbing is that the voters who feel strongest about overriding the federal courts – Republicans and conservatives - are those who traditionally have been the most supportive of the Constitution and separation of powers. During the Obama years, however, these voters have become increasingly suspicious and even hostile toward the federal government.

Fifty percent (50%) of GOP voters now believe states should have the right to ignore federal court rulings, compared to just 22% of Democrats and 30% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Interestingly, this represents a noticeable rise in support among all three groups.

Fifty percent (50%) of conservative voters share this view, but just 27% of moderates and 15% of liberals agree.

American Dream Has Turned into a Progressive Nightmare

The American dream is vanishing before our very eyes.  It is becoming self-evident that an all-encompassing federal government has a deleterious effect on prosperity.  Something our founding fathers knew and tried to prevent.  Rasmussen reported the following:

More Americans than ever now believe it is no longer possible for anyone in the United States to work their way out of poverty. They believe even more strongly that it's no longer possible for someone to work hard in this country and get rich.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 27% of American Adults now say it is possible for anyone in the country to work hard and get rich, generally unchanged since late 2012. Fifty-nine percent (59%), though, say that is no longer possible, up from 55% in late January and the highest level of pessimism in over four years of surveying. Fourteen percent (14%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

We no longer live the American Dream.  We now live in a Progressive nightmare.

Obama Losing the Love in North Carolina

The new Rasmussen Poll has Mitt Romney moving into a commanding lead in North Carolina. This after Obama endorsed same-sex marriage and basically pissed on a solid majority of voters who passed Amendment One:

Mitt Romney has moved out to an eight-point lead over President Obama in North Carolina after the two men were virtually tied a month ago.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the Tar Heel State shows the putative Republican nominee earning 51% of the vote to Obama’s 43%. Two percent (2%) like some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording,

That’s a big change from
last month when Romney posted a narrow 46% to 44% lead over the president in Rasmussen Reports’ first survey of the race in North Carolina. Democrats have signaled North Carolina’s importance as a key swing state by deciding to hold their national convention in Charlotte this summer.

I believe it’s safe to say North Carolina is a swinger no more – much to the chagrin of the hedonist who plans on coming to Charlotte for the Democratic National Convention.

I hope that their stay here is SHORT and sweet. By the way democrats, be sure to pick up your gift basket of lotions and sexual devices at the service counter before you leave our state.

American's Demand Repeal of Obamacare

According to a Rasmussen polling report, a majority of Americans have consistently opposed Obamacare from its inception, and want it repealed:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 53% of Likely U.S. Voters now at least somewhat favor repeal of the health care law, down three points from last week but consistent with findings since Congress passed the law nearly a year ago. Thirty-nine percent (39%) oppose repeal. These findings include 44% who Strongly Favor repeal of the measure and 25% who are Strongly Opposed

Obama declared in an address at the National Governor’s Association, he is willing to work with the individual states on a compromise, but he doesn’t want to fight the old battles of these past couple of years.

I’ve news for the thug-in-chief; the American people have yet begun to fight. And if the polling stats by Rasmussen are any indication, you are a one term president.

Political Class Sides Against Americans on Ground Zero Mosque

Again, there is a huge disconnect between American citizens and the Political Class.  Rasmussen conducted a telephone poll and here are the results:

Now 62% oppose the building of a mosque near where the World Trade Center stood in Lower Manhattan, compared to 54% in the previous survey. Twenty-five percent (25%) favor allowing the mosque to go ahead, and 13% more are not sure.

Sixty-eight percent (68%) of the Political Class, however, favor building the mosque near Ground Zero. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Mainstream voters are opposed.

Now let's take a look at the 25% who are in league with the political class.  Notice the organizations printed on the signs:

That's right communist and self-loathing Americans are walking hand in hand with the Jihadist.  Oh, and I've got news for you commies:  Islam is not a race.

Huge Chasm Between Political Class and Mainstream Americans

Here is another example of the widening gap between the American people and the politicians who supposedly represent our interest. As reported by Rasmussen:

71% Say U.S. More Positive Force in World Than UN, Political Class Not So Sure

Seventy-one percent (71%) of U.S. voters say the United States is a more positive force for good in the world today than the United Nations, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Thirteen percent (13%) disagree and say the international organization is a more positive force for good. Sixteen percent (16%) more are undecided.

But there’s a sharp difference of opinion between Mainstream voters and the Political Class. While 79% of Mainstream voters view America as a more positive force for good in the world today than the UN, just 45% of the Political Class agree.

Just 30% of voters see the UN as an ally of the United States while 16% regard the international organization as an enemy of the United States. Half (49%) place it somewhere in between. These figures mark little change from April 2009.

The gap between the Political Class and the nation is particularly large on this question. Eighty percent (80%) of the Political Class see the UN as America’s ally. That view is shared by just 20% of Mainstream Americans.

Rasmussen: Tea Partiers More Believable Than Politicians

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 52% of U.S. voters believe the average member of the Tea Party movement has a better understanding of the issues facing America today than the average member of Congress. Only 30% believe that those in Congress have a better understanding of the key issues facing the nation.

When it comes to those issues, 47% think that their own political views are closer to those of the average Tea Party member than to the views of the average member of Congress. On this point, 26% feel closer to Congress.

Finally, 46% of voters say that the average Tea Party member is more ethical than the average member of Congress. Twenty-seven percent (27%) say that the average member of Congress is more ethical.

As you would expect, there is a wide divide between the Political Class and Mainstream Americans on these questions. Seventy-five percent (75%) of those in the Political Class say that members of Congress are better informed on the issues. Among Mainstream Americans, 68% have the opposite view, and only 16% believe Congress is better informed.

By a 62% to 12% margin, Mainstream Americans say the Tea Party is closer to their views. By a 90% to one percent (1%) margin, the Political Class feels closer to Congress.

“The gap between Americans who want to govern themselves and politicians who want to rule over them may be as big today as the gap between the colonies and England during the 18th century,” Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, says in his new book, In Search of Self-Governance. “If we had to rely on politicians to fix these problems, the outlook for the nation would be bleak indeed. Fortunately, in America, the politicians aren’t nearly as important as they think they are.”
