Is Union Worth the Price of Liberty and Limited Government?

It’s becoming quite apparent that a substantial percentage of American citizens have either rejected the blessings of liberty for themselves and posterity, or they have no understanding of freedom and the responsibility for which that entails.  We have raised a generation of participation trophy recipients who want to be rewarded for not participating.  Today’s youths demand a safe place, a bubble if you will, from offensives, real or perceived.  Decades of progressive policies have culminated into a regressive state of infantilism.

One must ask, what will be the future of the United States in an age of thumb sucking and whining?  Can this country remain half free and half aggrieved?  Can a people survive the velvet chains of perpetual shaming for the sins of past generations?  Is it possible for the United States to remain prosperous when so many have rejected the principles of our founding while denigrating our history?  Can we ultimately survive the cries for totalitarianism by the intolerant left?

Progressives believe there is salvation through government.  God is dead.  Government is eternal and caring.  Apostles of the bureaucracy will embrace the easily offended in a bubble blanket of security.  But for this to happen, one must give up his freewill for the greater good.  Supplicants must renounce the U.S. Constitution and the principles of limited government and celebration of the individual.  They must denounce Christian morality for the purification of collective salvation.

Liberals have been successful in turning Christianity into a pejorative even to the point of bastardizing our history.  They have declared America was not founded by Christians; instead, the people who fought, died and forged this great nation were deist, humanist, and atheist.  Even the second greatest event that reshaped this country has been calculatingly rewritten.

The American Civil War reshaped the way citizens of the United States perceive the federal government.  Yes, slavery was an abhorrent institution; but that was not the reasons the North rejected the principles of our Declaration of Independence by invading the South.  Northerners, as documented by myriads of diaries and writings, believed the United States was destined for greatness.  They believed in the providence of God and that the United States had a mission to spread democracy and Christian values throughout the world.  The South had no right to defy God by seceding from the union.

I believe it is safe to say, progressives have rejected this doctrine of Christian morality and democracy.  As a matter of fact, they have torpedoed the very institutions that were once lauded as essential for a civilized people.

Americans must ask themselves if a bubble blanket and a safe place are worth the loss of liberty and limited government.  The larger question is has this union ran its course.

Obama Speaks Dog

Obama was in Milwaukee to speak before a union crowd at Laborfest.  The usual suspects attended the event: Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. Obama used the forum to promote his $50 billion infrastructure plan and to criticize Republicans:

"Some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time and they're not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That's not in my prepared remarks, but it's true."

Unprepared is correct.  Powerful interest talk about you like a dog?  May I ask what dialect?  Is it beagle, rottweiler, terrier, or could it be poodle?  If it's poodle, did you hire the crazed one -- Al Gore -- to translate?

"They’re betting that between now and November, you’ll come down with a case of amnesia," Obama said. "They think you’ll forget what their agenda did to this country. They think you’ll just believe that they’ve changed. These are the folks whose policies helped devastate our middle class and drive our economy into a ditch. And now they’re asking you for the keys back."

These guys are so devoid of originality that they keep recycling the came old lines.  Barney Frank used the amnesia punch line not long ago:

A North Carolina democratic contender running for the U.S. Senate used this analogy:

Cal Cunningham declared, "We're going to have to teach a little driver's ed this fall. For the country to move forward, it needs to move the gearshift to "D"- for Democrats, instead of staying stuck in reverse like the Republicans."

Barack Obama used the same analogy at an Austin, Texas fundraiser.  Here is the quote from a transcript obtained from the White House website:

Now, here’s another interesting thing -- I want you guys to think about this. If you have a car and you want to go forward, what do you do? You put it in “D.” (Laughter.) When you want to go backwards, what do you do? You put it in “R.” (Applause.) I'm just saying. That’s no coincidence. (Laughter.) We are not going to give them the keys back.

The Democrats are not just recycling the failed policies of FDR; they are recycling the same old tired jokes.

Coke Cancels Employee Health Care

Coke canceled the health care plan of 500 employees after a protracted contract dispute.   Five employees have filed a class action lawsuit.

"My wife had a kidney transplant two years ago. When Coke cancelled our health care, they cut off her anti-rejection medication. This shows me that Coke doesn't care about its employees," said Bill Mauhl, a 34-year Coke employee, who works in the company's production facility in Bellevue.

"In my almost twenty years of representing workers and unions in labor disputes, it's hard to think of any past instance where I have seen an employer retaliate against its striking workers in a manner as egregious as what the Coca-Cola Bottling Company has done here," said Dmitri Iglitzin, an attorney at Schwerin Campbell Barnard Iglitzin & Lavitt, an employment law firm based in Seattle.

"Cutting off the medical benefits to more than 500 workers, knowing that many of them rely on those benefits on a day-to-day basis and will be irreparably harmed if they lose those benefits is a brutal, full-scale attack by Coke on its own workers," Iglitzin said.

Well get used to it.  Soon, all employers are going to dump their insurance plans; forcing all of us on Obamacare.  And if you think that you are being violated now, wait until you're brought before Dr. Berwick's death panel.
