Great Britain's Health Care System Culls the Herd

I don’t know how many times I’ve had conversations with libtards about the failures of Obamacare only to have the aforementioned morons exclaim, “We should have universal healthcare.”  I become amazed at this illogical conclusion that the federal government can improve upon the disaster it created.

No amount of logic or evidence can persuade these utopians that government healthcare is substandard and deadly.  Even tales from the VA are dismissed as anomalies.  However, maybe a true universal healthcare system such as Great Britain’s might be the cure for this transcendental stupidity.

Obese people will be routinely refused operations across the NHS, health service bosses have warned, after one authority said it would limit procedures on an unprecedented scale.

Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above – as well as smokers – will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole. The restrictions will apply to standard hip and knee operations.

The decision, described by the Royal College of Surgeons as the “most severe the modern NHS has ever seen”, led to warnings that other trusts will soon be forced to follow suit and rationing will become the norm if the current funding crisis continues.

Chris Hopson, the head of NHS Providers, which represents acute care, ambulance and community services, said: “I think we are going to see more and more decisions like this.

“It’s the only way providers are going to be able to balance their books, and in a way you have to applaud their honesty. You can see why they’re doing this – the service is bursting at the seams.”

Some of the fools I know who advocate a single-payer system are smokers and/or fat.  I bet these geniuses don't realize universal healthcare is designed to cull their kind from the herd.

Are Democrats Following the Venezuelan Health Care Model?

So the Democrats want a universal health care system.  I bet they have no clue as to what that entails.  They are following in the footsteps of a Third-World country like Venezuela.  Here is a quote from an Associated Press article:

Gonzalez is on a list of 31 breast cancer patients waiting to have tumors removed at one of Venezuela's biggest medical facilities, Maracay's Central Hospital. But like legions of the sick across the country, she's been neglected by a health care system doctors say is collapsing after years of deterioration.

Doctors at the hospital sent home 300 cancer patients last month when supply shortages and overtaxed equipment made it impossible for them to perform non-emergency surgeries.

Driving the crisis in health care are the same forces that have left Venezuelans scrambling to find toilet paper, milk and automobile parts. Economists blame government mismanagement and currency controls set by the late President Hugo Chavez for inflation pushing 50 percent annually. The government controls the dollars needed to buy medical supplies and has simply not made enough available.

The federal government is already monetizing our debt.  Obamacare overtaxed medical equipment which could lead to the same problems as Venezuela.  And now there are discussions of cost/price controls.  Some Democrats have stated they want to turn doctors into serfs.  That would lead to a shortage of medical experts, which means we have to import Third-Worlders whose culture is hostile to Western Civilization.  Hell, Venezuela had to hire Cubans.

The country's 1999 constitution guarantees free universal health care to Venezuelans, who sit on the world's largest proven oil reserves. President Nicolas Maduro's government insists it's complying. Yet of the country's 100 fully functioning public hospitals, nine in 10 have just 7 percent of the supplies they need, Natera said.

The other nearly 200 public hospitals that existed when Chavez took office were largely replaced by a system of walk-in clinics run by Cuban doctors that have won praise for delivering preventative care to the neediest but do not treat serious illnesses.

Wasn’t one of the mandates for Obamacare preventive care?  Yeah, I thought so.

UNC Health Care CEO Wants to Compel Citizens into Single-Payer Program

UNC Health Care CEO, John Roper stood before state legislators and decried the inadequate health care Americans are receiving.   He believes the only way to cure the ailments of the collective is a single-payer system.  And he doesn’t care if you like your plan or not.  As a matter of fact, he believes we should be “compelled” into a universal (Marxist) health care system.  Here is an excerpt from a Carolina Journal article:
Under the current American health care system, Roper said, hospitals have to charge people who can pay more money to compensate for those who can’t pay.

He said “a more sensible approach” would be to set up “one insurance scheme for everybody and charge premiums to people who could afford to pay it, and a sliding scale for those who couldn’t. Then [provide] subsidies for those and the bottom of the scale, and then collect the money and pay the bills … that works in other countries.”

The host noted that the system Roper was advocating sounded “suspiciously” like a single-payer system, and Roper confirmed that was what he was describing.

“The problem with that here is it runs counter to our tradition of radical individualism and Americans having great distrust of major government programs,” Roper said.

“None of the reforms that Americans would find reasonable will work unless most if not all of our population is in the system,” he continued. “Unless people can be compelled … and I’ll use the word compelled… to make plans and buy insurance ahead of time then the only people who will buy it are those that have these chronic, serious illnesses, or pre-existing conditions.”

How is it that Mr. Roper comes to his statist solutions?  Well, he once served as head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  He is a big government bureaucrat.  Go figure.
And as it goes with our wannabe lord and masters, Mr. Roper believes health care cost is too high, mainly due to obstinate Americans not willing to exercise preventive care.  He also stated that any meaningful reforms would incur “cost controls.”  Can anyone say Death Panels?

The assertions of Mr. Roper have been easily refuted by Dr. Andrew Foy.  Here are few excerpts, again published by Carolina Journal:
Foy agrees that the health care costs are spiraling out of control, but blames government intervention for the problem and argues that more government intervention is not the solution.

“Prior to the advent of Medicare and Medicaid, individuals paid for the majority of medical goods and services out of their own pocket and utilized health insurance as a rational tool for mitigating financial risk posed by catastrophic events,” Foy wrote in another article. “During this time a real market existed for the vast majority of medical goods and services, and prices were reasonable.”

But after these government programs came into existence, private insurance companies also began covering health care “maintenance” to remain competitive, he said, causing third-party spending on routine medical services to increase and out-of-pocket spending to fall.

The result, he wrote, is “consumers now use many medical services that they would simply reject if they had to pay for them out of pocket — and truthfully, in most cases, they would be none the worse off for rejecting them.”

Try explaining that to a statist like Mr. Roper.
