Once Again, The Charlotte Observer Calls for Tax Increases for Their Favorite Pets

Barely a day goes by without the socialist scum at the Charlotte Observer trying to find ways for federal, state and local governments to impose tax increases upon the citizenry. It doesn’t matter what kind, because statism is their goal, and to hell with the rest of us. Here is the latest humbug from the Disturber:

Deep into last year’s legislative session, House Speaker Thom Tillis and Senate leader Phil Berger announced a budget deal after weeks of searing debate over education cuts and the repeal of a piece of the state’s sales tax.

But one of the juiciest pieces of the agreement drew little scrutiny or debate: a tax break for owners of businesses that will cost $336 million a year, one of the largest tax cuts in a decade.

Tillis and Berger, both Republicans, heralded the tax break as a “$50,000 exemption for small businesses – the backbone of North Carolina’s struggling economy.” But the exemption is not just for small businesses. There is no cap on the size of the business that can claim the exemption.

So the break will go to roughly 460,000 business owners of all sorts, including equity partners in law firms, doctors and dentists with thriving practices, even lobbyists who patrol the legislature. It also includes some state lawmakers who are business owners.

Each of those partners will be able to avoid state taxes on his or her first $50,000 of income – roughly $3,500 less in taxes.

And to underscore the constant advocacy for tax increases and expansion of government programs and expenditures, here is an excerpt from an editorial published a couple of days prior:

The Republican-dominated House could have done better. It could have done much more for schools, the university system, public health and state employees – and paid for it more responsibly by restoring a 3/4-cent temporary sales tax that lawmakers jettisoned last summer. That money could pay for raises for teachers – raises they haven’t seen in four years. Instead, the House has proposed an insufficient $250 one-time bonus.

Lawmakers should restore the sales tax and leave it in place for a few years until the economy stabilizes. The proposed House funding scheme means the state will be at this precipice again next year, trying to find a way to patch funding holes created without a revenue surplus or trust funds lawmakers can raid.

Teachers haven’t had a raise in four years? Who in the hell has! Many of us are underemployed. Many of us in the private sector have seen our earnings almost halved, and without any prospects of regaining what we once had. But forget about us, the Charlotte Observer’s favorite pets haven’t had a raise in four years!

Well, BOO F****** HOO!

How is it that a local paper can be so tone deaf? What echo chamber do these people live in? Maybe Taylor Batten, the editor at the Charlotte Observer, will raffle off a dinner date at his multi-million dollar estate, so as to have a better understanding of we little people. Much like the one Obama's "beautiful people" are throwing for the great unwashed.

Liberals Can Donate Tax Refund to N.C. Government Programs

ta

A North Carolina House Committee just passed H.R. 877 which allows citizens to donate their tax refunds to state programs.  Carolina Journal reports the following:

House Bill 877, Check Off Donation: Government Funding, would allow filers to donate all or a portion of their state income tax refunds to six accounts, including the Department of Public Instruction, the state university system, and the general fund.

“On the merits of it, I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking people to give a dollar or two to help out the state,” said Rep. Marcus Brandon, D-Guilford.

This should be a liberal’s wet dream.  But there are those who see H.R. 877 as a threat to their power:

Other Democrats disagreed. “This totally undermines the legislative process, and it’s why it’s not a good idea,” said Rep. Paul Luebke, D-Durham.

Rep. Paul Luebke would rather have us pay a 1% sales tax so he can decide where the money goes, instead of this voluntary program where the citizens deem who is more worthy.

I believe the federal government should adopt this idea.  Let the socialist donate their money to a profligate legislative body, instead of confiscating the wealth of others.  Maybe then they’ll shut their mouths; but we all know that is just a pipe dream.

Senator John Kerry's Favorite Pet: Big Government

Senator John F. Kerry, the man who would be king, has a tear in his beer over the animosity that has been brewing over the ridiculous spending in Washington D.C..  He is fretting over the incoming 112th Congress and what that means to his power:

"Do they want a government too limited to have invented the Internet, now a vital part of our commerce and communications?" he asked at one point.

That's funny, I thought that Al Gore invented the internet.

Kerry also argued that the government's bailout of U.S. auto companies was warranted, and said government-funded research programs should be spared.

"[Do they want a] government too small to give America’s auto industry and all its workers a second chance to fight for their survival? Taxes too low to invest in the research that creates jobs and industries and fills the Treasury with the revenue that educates our children, cures disease, and defends our country?"

As you can see Senator Kerry believes nothing can be done without Big Government.  And with the abounding successes of the Feds, I don't know why we aren't clamoring for a bureaucrat in every house.  Obviously, the private sector and local communities are so incompetent. It's amazing that we're able to put up a street sign.

And might I add that General Motors or should I say the UAW is a complete success.  What do you think will happen first:  GM pays back its debt, or they will ask for another bailout?  I betting on the latter.

Senator Kerry bemoaned our crumbling infrastructure as well.  Like they have done such a bang up job in the past.  Instead of fixing our roads and bridges, they funneled money to new projects.  Screw that gaping pothole, build that new recreational center that has my name blazoned on it.

You guys in D.C. have been such great stewards.  It's a wonder why the American people want to take the checkbook away from you.

It's The Spending Stupid!!

You can't spend your way into prosperity, yet the politicians, lobbyist and government bureaucrats would have you believe that if they just take more of your money they can stimulate the economy and everything will be all right.

I've never met a heroine addict but I've seen one on T.V..  Obama and his army of juicers just can't get enough of that high. They will lie and steal to feed their spending addiction.  The ones who suffer the most is family and friends; in this case it is a whole nation.

Obama and His Socialist Theoreticians

Barack Obama has proposed a new “Stimulus Bill” even though that is not what they are calling it. Our current national debt is figured to be at $130 trillion dollars. There is not enough money in the world to pay for this; literally. As per National Review Online:

For perspective: At the time that 2008 article was written, the entire supply of money in the world (“broad money,” i.e., global M3, meaning cash, consumer-account deposits, checkable accounts, CDs, long-term deposits, travelers’ checks, money-market funds, the whole enchilada) was estimated to be just under $60 trillion. Which is to say: The optimistic view is that our outstanding obligations amount to more than all of the money in the world.

Here we have a president who spent a brief time in the private sector and described the experience as sitting behind enemy lines. His cabinet is filled with academics that have similar resumes. No past administration has ever had such a lack of real world experience as Obama’s. We have theoreticians running the country.

I believe we are witnessing the consequences of socialist academia indoctrination.

Government Spending: Real or Fake

See how well you do in this game. I believe that you will be surprised.

House Democrats Abdicate Constitutional Responsibility

It never fails. Whenever a holiday weekend comes up, you can expect the Obama administration or Congress to try and sneak something past the American people. The House of Representatives did just that last week.

The House was supposed to provide a budget. It was due back in April, but the overindulgent spending by the democrats was so daunting that the majority was afraid to pass a traditional budget; instead they passed a "budget enforcement resolution". All republicans including 38 democrats voted against it.

Rep. John Spratt (D) of South Carolina stated the following:

“While this resolution does not project the budget out over five years, it does look to the future by assuring that the House will have an opportunity to vote this year on longer-term budget proposals made by the president’s Fiscal Commission and approved by the Senate,” said House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt (D-S.C.).

So the executive branch is taking over the duties of Congress? The House of Representatives is supposed to control the purse strings. And the democrats were worried about an imperial presidency under Bush? Where is the screaming and hollering from the left?

Rep. Paul Ryan (R) of Wisconsin stated his disgust:

“Facing a record deficit and a tidal wave of debt, House Democrats decided it was politically inconvenient to put forward a budget and account for their fiscal recklessness,” said Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.), the top Republican on the House Budget Committee. “With no priorities and no restraints, the spending, taxing, and borrowing will continue unchecked for the coming fiscal year."

This is the first time since 1976 that the House failed to provide a budget, and that year Jimmy Carter was elected. If the democrats believe that hiding their irresponsible spending is going to save their asses in November, they've got another think coming.

Congressman Larry Kissell's Fascistic Musings

Fascism is a philosophy or system of government that advocates or exercises dictatorship, through the merging of state and business leadership often with a belligerent nationalism.

I don't know about belligerent nationalism. There are quite a few self-loathing Americans on Capitol Hill; so we can discount that. But there are quite a few politicians who are eager to merge the state and business interest together.

Congressman Larry Kissell just recently bragged about securing $49 million in grants to Celgard, a maker of components for electric car batteries. As quoted on his legislative update:

"Celgard's expansion and this new green job training is the type of help the RECOVERY ACT was meant to bring and why I'm proud I supported it. Cooperation at levels of government, along with private enterprise, is what will fuel our economic recovery." - Rep. Larry Kissell

I don't know if Congressman Kissell displays belligerent nationalism; but he sure does believe in merging the state with business interest. His advocacy for "Green Jobs" is disconcerting. It implies that he believes in this fraud called global warming.

Mr. Kissell is extorting money from the American taxpayers to pay for his special pet projects. How many businesses have to cut back, and lay people off because of burdensome federal regulations, and rapacious taxes. Meanwhile Celgard is getting special dispensation. If Celgard had a worthwhile product that is in demand, they wouldn't need federal grants. We are just shoving more money down a rat hole.

Congressman Kissell voted to infuse $75 billion in TARP money to pay for highways, school renovations, hiring teachers, police and firefighters while providing funding for small businesses, job training and affordable housing.

Tarp money was not designed for that. If anything it should have been used to pay down the debt, or returned to the taxpayers.

Government has grown 66% at the federal, state, and local levels just in the past year. The biggest growing sector today are government jobs. Today, government workers make more than those in the private sector. We have more people riding in the cart, than those who are pulling it. And Congressman Larry Kissell is cracking the whip.

I don't know what these people in Washington D.C. are thinking. Apparently, they can spend like crazy without any consequences. Maybe they should turn on the news and take a look at what is happening over in Greece.
