Charlotte Observer's Vanishing Sen. Kay Hagan Corruption Story

Senator Kay Hagan’s Stimulus corruption scandal has made its way around the alternative media circuit for the past couple of weeks.  It finally was reported by the Charlotte Observer this weekend.  Or was it?  Weasel Zipper posted the following:

Apparently, this story has vanished.  Yeah, the Charlotte Observer is a nonpartisan newspaper, my ass.

Senator Kay Hagan's Husband Fleeces Stimulus Bill

It normally takes a couple of years for freshmen politicians to navigate the halls of Congress and understand that bodies functions.  Not so with Senator Kay Hagan.  She acted like a veteran from the get go.  So much so, her husband was able to acquire grants and tax credits from the vaunted Stimulus Bill.  The Politico reported the following:

When Kay Hagan voted for President Barack Obama’s 2009 economic stimulus package, the Democratic senator hailed it as “the best way forward for working families across North Carolina.”

One of the families that later benefited is her own.

JDC Manufacturing, a company co-owned by the Democratic senator’s husband, Chip, received nearly $390,000 in federal grants for energy projects and tax credits created by the 2009 stimulus law, according to public records and information provided by the company.

Chip’s business really took off after that.  But of course, Senator Kay Hagan had nothing to do with it.  Yeah, right.

Financial disclosure statements show that the Hagans’ income from JDC Manufacturing increased from less than $201 in 2008 to nearly $134,000 in 2013. Company representatives said higher rental income account for the uptick, not the stimulus-funded projects that were completed during that span.

In statement to POLITICO, the Hagan campaign said the senator did not help her husband win the federal funding and disputed any suggestion they have profited off the law.

Once she learned of her husband’s dealings, Hagan never involved herself in his efforts to obtain the stimulus grants, her campaign said. She consulted with veteran Democratic attorney Marc Elias over the matter, according to spokeswoman Sadie Weiner.

“Kay is not involved in her husband’s business and had no part in helping JDC apply for or receive these grants,” Weiner said. “Her only involvement was when she made sure that a respected ethics attorney was consulted to ensure that it was appropriate, and the attorney found that it was.

We all know how ethical North Carolina Democratic politicians are.

Rogue Companies Defy Federal Labor Laws

Libtards have their panties in a wad over a revelation that federal government projects funded through the vaunted Stimulus Bill have gone to companies that have suspect hiring practices.  McClatchy owned newspapers published a five part series on companies that use subcontractors to circumvent federal labor laws in order to underbid their compliant competitors.

This practice is common in the construction industry.  It is prevalent in states that are infested with illegal aliens.  North Carolina is at the top of that list.  Here is what their investigation found:

Companies using stimulus money routinely snubbed labor law and the Internal Revenue Service by treating workers as independent contractors in a clear violation of what’s allowed.

The scofflaws undercut the bids of do-it-right competitors who refused to push their roofers, painters and electricians off their payrolls and into limbo.

Laborers got swindled. They lost unemployment insurance and, in many cases, workers’ compensation benefits and fair wages. Some didn’t even know they were being hurt.

All this happened under the noses of government officials. From the White House down to county-level agencies, regulators could have stopped it. Some top government officials admit they didn’t.

Happened under government officials noses?  That is laughable!  Commonsense tells you this has been going on for decades.  The problem stems from Washington D.C. itself.  They refuse to enforce immigration laws.  Hell, they’re advocates for illegal immigration as well as their lapdogs in the media who’ve reported this!  And they have the audacity to act surprised?

Do liberals believe all illegal aliens are gardeners, maids and nannies?  Of course not!  They are in the trades.  They are taking skilled jobs that would otherwise go to Americans.

Here is an example of progressive hypocrisy.  The Charlotte Observer published a separate article on the first page of their Sunday edition, “Legal Hurdles for Child Refugees.”  Two children from Honduras made a long trek to Charlotte, NC to meet up with their mother, who by the way is an illegal alien.  And guess what she does for a living?  She paints houses.  Do you think she is an employee?  Chances are she is a subcontractor that pays no federal or state taxes.

I could barely read this piece from the Disturbers tear stained pity piece.  Yet, they’re outraged about the hiring practices of rogue companies.

Oh, and for your information, the illegal alien house painter with two illegal alien kids made a noteworthy comment:

“I didn’t want them to make that trip here, but my biggest fear is they will be deported back,” she says.  “If they try to take my children, we would go to another place, another state, even another country.  We would leave and start over.”

We know she isn’t going to Mexico.  They don’t tolerate illegal immigrants there.

Celgard's Green Energy Sales Problem

Don’t look now, but another “green energy” company is having financial problems.  Celgard just announced that 40 workers will be laid off.  I remember in 2010, Congressman Larry Kissell mailed brochures bragging about how much pork he brought to his district.  Celgard was one of the recipients of the Stimulus program.  Here is what he had to say:

"Celgard's expansion and this new green job training is the type of help the RECOVERY ACT was meant to bring and why I'm proud I supported it. Cooperation at levels of government, along with private enterprise, is what will fuel our economic recovery." - Rep. Larry Kissell
The other piglet, Sen. Kay Hagan, also bragged about Celgard on her website.  Here is the end result of wasted taxpayer monies:

Celgard is a subsidiary of Charlotte-based high-tech manufacturer Polypore. In its most recent quarter, Polypore reported that net sales slumped 6.5 percent, to $177.6 million, and profits fell to $14.2 million. That’s down from $23.6 million in profits during the same quarter last year.

Sales of the company’s electric drive vehicle and electronics products fell to $43.5 million, down from $56 million in the same quarter last year. Operating income for the segment was down by more than 50 percent, falling to $10.5 million from $26.5 million a year ago. Lower production levels of electric drive vehicles were cited as the main cause.

Politicians have touted Celgard as an example of a successful clean energy company. Celgard received a $49 million grant from President Obama’s stimulus program, and he made a speech at the company in 2010.

The company also received $18.6 million in state and local incentives to help expansion at its Concord plant. The company opened the 150,000-sqare-foot facility, which it said brought 250 new jobs, in July 2011.

That’s a lot of money this company has sucked from the taxpayer teat.  I wonder how long they’d last without government assistance.  I suspect not long.

Elizabeth Warren's Let's Be Like China Ad

Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate wants us to be more like China. After all, they’re the paragon of economic stimulus programs:

"We've got bridges and roads in need of repair and thousands of people in need of work. Why aren’t we rebuilding America?” Warren says in the 30-second ad. “Our competitors are putting people to work, building a future. China invests 9 percent of its GDP in infrastructure. America? We’re at just 2.4 percent. We can do better. We can build a foundation for a strong new economy and get people to Massachusetts to work right now."

Careful what you wish for Ms. Warren. You might just get it:

A nearly 330-foot-long section of a ramp of the eight-lane Yangmingtan Bridge in the city of Harbin dropped 100 feet to the ground. Four trucks plummeted with it, resulting in three deaths and five injuries.

The 9.6-mile bridge is one of three built over the Songhua River in that area in the past four years. China’s economic stimulus program in 2009 and 2010 helped the country avoid most of the effects of the global economic downturn, but involved incurring heavy debt to pay for the rapid construction of new bridges, highways and
high-speed rail lines all over the country.

Questions about the materials used during the construction and whether the projects were properly engineered have been the subject of national debate ever since a high-speed train plowed into the back of a stopped train on the same track on July 23 last year in the eastern city of Wenzhou. The crash killed 40 people and injured 191; a subsequent investigation blamed in particular
flaws in the design of the signaling equipment.

I believe we should roll that China train down to crawl, Ms. Warren.

Charlotte Screws Taxpayers with Electric Car Boondoggle

Obama’s big energy, stimulus boondoggle has made its way to the Queen City. Charlotte, North Carolina received millions in federal grant money for a handful of electric cars, and a couple of charging stations, so the public servants can tout green technology:

The total amount of Charlotte's energy efficiency stimulus grant is $6.78 million. Some of that money will pay for the seven Leaf vehicles, which will be used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities (one car); engineering (two cars); transportation (two cars); airport (one car); Neighborhood & Business Services (one car).

Rob Phocas, the city's engineering and sustainability manager, said the goal is to have staff members driving them around the city to showcase the technology.

Don’t ever say crony capitalism isn’t alive and well in the Piedmont. Siemens is contracted to build the charging stations that will cater to the very few and proud who own an electric car:

Installation of the charging stations will be paid for by the $215,000 federal grant. Siemens, which has a large turbine factory on Westinghouse Boulevard, will work with the city to install them.

The charging stations should be in place by January.

Never mind that private businesses have built stations on their own. Even the writer of this article acknowledges that Bank of America, Duke Energy, and the Ritz-Carlton have already installed stations; Wells Fargo also plans on building one. But Charlotte just couldn’t resist taking millions of “free money” from the federal government.

Even a RINO was ecstatic over the great, green hoax:

Republican Council member Andy Dulin said he's excited about the technology. He said he wanted the ability to test drive the Leafs to see if they are viable.

"I'm excited about the idea of an electric car," Dulin said.

"I go eight miles to one place, and eight miles back. I'd like the opportunity to drive it and give it a test. I can tell the community about it."

I hope Mr. Andy Dulin tells the taxpayers of the community the price tag of this caper. I doubt they’ll be as excited as their councilman.

Obama Plans to Bypass Congress on Jobs Bill

President Obama has vowed to bypass Congress if they don’t pass his jobs bill. The administrator-in-thief will do whatever it takes to implement his programs even if it’s unconstitutional:

“We’re not going to wait for Congress. So my instruction to… all the advisers who are sitting around the table is, scour this report, identify all those areas in which we can act administratively without additional congressional authorization, and just get it done,” the president said at a meeting of his Jobs and Competitiveness Council in Pittsburgh.

If Congress does not pass the bill in full, the president reiterated his plan to adopt a piecemeal approach to pass the American Jobs Act. ”If they don’t pass the whole package, we’re going to break it up into different parts,” he said.

The president’s council, made up of 27 top U.S executives, has put forward five “targeted proposals that can meaningfully accelerate job creation while beginning to rebuild America’s competitiveness.”

“These days, things don’t move as quickly through Congress as we would like. But there are certain ideas that are contained in this jobs council report that historically have received bipartisan support. And the election is 14 months away, or 13 months away. We can’t wait until another election before we start acting on some of those ideas,” Obama said.

The Anointed One has 14 “high impact” infrastructure projects he would like to push through the bureaucratic machine. It’s too bad he didn’t do that in the original Stimulus Bill. Instead, that money was wasted. I wonder how he plans to fund these new boondoggles without congressional approval. Does he have a secret stash after all?

Obama Wants Senate to Stop Playing Politics With Jobs Bill

Barack Obama used his weekly address to warn the Senate not to play politics with his jobs bill. Somebody should tell the president that it’s his own party that won’t let Stimulus 2.0 reach the floor:

On Thursday night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) triggered the so-called nuclear option — unilaterally changing Senate rules by a simple majority vote to stop the minority from forcing votes on uncomfortable amendments. It’s the same tactic the majority would use to undercut the minority’s ability to filibuster. And that’s why it’s called “nuclear” — it dramatically alters the balance of power between the majority and minority. It is not a step to be taken lightly.

What great matter drove Reid to push the nuclear button? Apparently Republican leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) was threatening to force a vote on the original version of President Obama’s jobs bill, to show how few Democrats were willing to support it. In other words, Reid invoked the nuclear option to avoid a political embarrassment for his party.

Obama asserts that reputable economist back his plan. Do these economists have amnesia? Because Son of Stimulus is a bastard just likes its father. And this bill will be nothing more than another boondoggle.

What’s really galling is how clueless Obama is. Not all construction workers are road and bridge builders. He acts as though none of these trades are specialized; that anyone can come off the street and throw up a bridge. That maybe so in the community organizing business, but not in construction.

I hope when 2012 comes around the American people elect a president who is worthy of the office, and not a back-bench agitator with catchy slogans.

Obama Demands His Jobs Bill Back

Obama wants his jobs bill back. He wants to know why it’s taking so long for Congress to act on his Stimulus 2.0. Well, I have an answer. It’s because the commander-in-thief couldn’t find a democrat to sponsor it in the House of Representatives. When one finally introduced this failure, not one in his party co-sponsored this joke.

Maybe the Anointed One should ask his own party what the holdup is. They’re the ones he’s been waiting for.

Dems Won't Co-Sponsor Son of Stimulus

Barack Obama’s Jobs Bill was finally introduced into the House of Represents, and without one co-sponsor. The Daily Caller reports the following:

The Daily Caller has learned that Connecticut Democratic Rep. John Larson has introduced President Barack Obama’s jobs plan in the House of Representatives “at the request of the president” and that the bill has no co-sponsors.

Subsequent to The Daily Caller’s earlier reporting on Republican Rep. James Lankford of Oklahoma’s comments about the bill not being filed in the House, a senior Democratic aide told TheDC the legislation was first introduced in the Senate on Sept. 13 by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and in the House on Sept. 21 “at the request of the President.”

Both versions, H.R. 12 and S. 1549 contain the same language and have no co-sponsors.

“Members have not been asked to co-sponsor the bill. Instead, members have asked that the GOP leadership bring it up so we can address the need for job creation in this country,” a senior Democratic aide told TheDC. “We weren’t chasing co-sponsors.”’

House Speaker John Boehner’s office declined to comment on the likelihood of the legislation being considered in the House and directed TheDC to Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s office, which has yet to respond.

The democrats didn’t chase co-sponsors because nobody wants to kiss this lipstick laden pig. The first Stimulus Bill was a stinker. And nobody wants to roll in the mud with fat sow.

Obama Pushes Jobs Bill Canard

Obama used his weekly address to push his non-existent jobs bill. Why is it non-existent? Because no one in the House of Representatives has sponsored it. According to Article One, Section Seven all bills of revenue must originate in the House.

But putting that aside, it looks as though our commander-in-thief didn’t learn his lesson from the original federal boondoggle. Now, he is promoting Son of Stimulus. When is this horror show going to end?

What really irks me is how clueless this guy is. Obama seems to think that all construction workers are skilled in road and bridge building. And just how many schools need to be renovated? This is not a sustainable plan.

And why is the federal government involved in local issues like the hiring of firefighters, teachers and policemen? And how do they propose funding all of these municipalities? There has to be hundreds of thousands cities, towns, and villages throughout this country. Is it any wonder that this nation is bankrupt?

Obama then states that his plan will cut taxes for businesses who will hire new workers. I’m sure they would like to hire new people, but tax breaks don’t make up for rampant federal regulations and mandates. Who in the hell wants to hire in a hostile environment, especially when owners are uncertain of what that new employee might cost.

To top it off, the clueless one will cut payroll taxes for those of us lucky enough to have a job. So now, Social Security will run even higher deficits. Just how sustainable is that?

If this is what an Ivy League education brings us? And just think, our government institutions are infested with this kind of ideology.

Captain Obama Throws Trial Lawyer Ghouls a Bone

The economy is so bad that Obama had to throw the trial lawyers a body or two. The commander-in-thief wanted to make sure that these ghouls, who are prominent donors to the Democratic Party, had a ship that would crash onto the promontory; giving them fresh bodies to plunder:

President Obama's American Jobs Act, which he presented to Congress on Monday, would make it illegal for employers to run advertisements saying that they will not consider unemployed workers, or to refuse to consider or hire people because they are unemployed.

The proposed language is found in a section of
the bill titled "Prohibition of Discrimination in Employment on the Basis of an Individual's Status as Unemployed." That section would also make it illegal for employers to request that employment agencies take into account a person's unemployed status.

It would also allow aggrieved job-seekers to seek damages if they have been discriminated against. This provision in particular prompted Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) to argue that Obama's proposal is aimed at creating a new, special class of people who can sue companies.

“So if you're unemployed, and you go to apply for a job and you're not hired for that job, see a lawyer," Gohmert said on the House floor. "You might be able to file a claim because you got discriminated against because you're unemployed."

He said this provision would only discourage companies from interviewing unemployed candidates, and would "help trial lawyers who are not having enough work," since there are about 14 million unemployed Americans.

Are Progressives Libtards or Grifters?

I don’t know who the person is that came up with the term Libtard, but that individual nailed it straight on, because only a Libtard would repeat the failure of the first Stimulus Bill:

At a news conference, members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus said Obama’s proposal was a good start, but that their own agenda would do even more to put people to work.

The CPC platform focuses on six areas for job creation and calls for a national infrastructure bank, green technology investment, new public-sector spending for job creation and closing tax loopholes and subsidies for big American businesses as well as discouraging large bonuses for CEOs of big corporations.

The framework includes a $227 billion jobs bill sponsored by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) that aims to create 2.2 million jobs through funding for school improvement, police and firefighter services, local healthcare providers, the Early Head Start program and park-improvement services.

Schakowsky’s proposal would be funded by separate legislation, also sponsored by her, that raises taxes on millionaires and billionaires. Her legislation would also cut subsidies for major oil companies and close tax loopholes for corporations that hire employees outside the United States.

While the progressive Democrats’ proposals focus on new spending, Obama’s jobs package includes mostly tax cuts, including an extension and expansion of the payroll tax cut introduced this year.

Isn’t that unbelievable? Do these people not learn from their mistakes? I have a question. Why is the federal government funding local governments via police departments, firefighters, and teachers? I believe the answer is that these unions finance the Democratic Party through membership dues. It’s a big money laundering scheme.

And how are these progressives to finance this huge boondoggle? By punishing people who do provide jobs and create the wealth.

Are Liberals retarded or are they grifters? Either way, the country will have a hard time recuperating from their machinations.

Paul Krugman is More a Political Hack Than an Economist

The Progressives favorite economist is not actually an economist in the truest sense. Paul Krugman, the man that every big government liberal loves to hug, is a political hack. This is not my critique; instead it comes from William Anderson, an adjunct scholar, from the Mises Institute:

This is harsh criticism, I realize, so I must explain my views in full. Yes, Krugman has a Ph.D. from MIT in economics, but his writings, both popular and academic, demonstrate that he does not believe in laws of economics. Instead, like most folks with socialist leanings, he believes that the state is both omniscient and omnipotent and simply by fiat can eliminate those pesky little problems caused by scarcity.

If one can surmise anything from Krugman's columns, it is that he is an unabashed Keynesian. While others in the economics profession have forsaken the Keynesian faith for things like "Rational Expectations" or "Real Business Cycles," Krugman remains true to the Church of John Maynard Keynes.

Keynesian economics has been a proven failure time and time again. But that of course doesn’t deter the adherents of this flawed theory. You would’ve thought that FDR’s failed economic policies would have been the epitaph of this failed theory; or the debacle of the 1970’s; or more recently the failed Stimulus Plan. No, there are still those who are clinging by their fingernails on this crumbling ledge.

Just recently, the three Democratic senators in the infamous super-committee stated that the country needs another stimulus plan. That is amazing considering the colossal failure of the last one. But that is what Paul Krugman and all of his leftist adherents have been clamoring for. That is unbelievable!

William Anderson sums up the statist thinking of the “economist” professor at Princeton:

No doubt, Krugman is an "authoritative" voice to those who advocate statism. He is a product of an elite university and has taught at the "highest levels" of academe since first earning his doctorate. Thus, those who cite Krugman as an authority in economics commit the informal fallacy of argumentum ad verecundiam (appeal to authority). However, if one wishes to appeal to logic, clear thinking, and the realization that economic analysis begins with the individual, then Krugman is not the person to whom one goes to find answers. One might as well call on a politician for intellectual sustenance as to call on Paul Krugman. In the final analysis, both will provide the same answer: expand the state, and when that creates problems, expand the state some more.

Obama Administration Admits Stimulus Bill a Big Failure

The latest news on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act should surprise no one except liberals/progressives and the economic geniuses that pushed it through congress.  It turns out the Stimulus Bill cost the taxpayers $288,000 per job, most of it to retain government employees.  The Daily Mailer gives a good perspective on this waste of money:

The 'Seventh Quarterly Report', written by the Council of Economic Advisors, revealed the stimulus added or saved 2.38million jobs since its introduction in February 2009.
But the legislation cost a total of $666billion to date, or roughly $278,000 per job.

The figures mean the U.S. government could have given a $100,000 cheque to everyone whose employment was made possible by the $800 billion American Recovery of Reinvestment Act (ARRA) - and taxpayers would still have come out $427billion ahead, The Weekly Standard reported.

Now, that the federal largess is fading away, so are those $300,000 jobs.  CNSNews reports:

According to the report, because stimulus spending is receding, the jobs estimated to have been supported by that spending are beginning to disappear as well. At the height of its effectiveness – the second and third quarters of 2010 – the CEA estimated that the stimulus was supporting 2.7 and 2.8 million jobs respectively.

When Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus spending into law -- the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) – on Feb. 17, 2009, he said, “Now, what makes this recovery plan so important is not just that it will create or save 3.5 million jobs over the next two years, including 60,000-plus here in Colorado. It's that we're putting Americans to work doing the work that America needs done -- in critical areas that have been neglected for too long; work that will bring real and lasting change for generations to come.”

Yeah, you gave us everlasting change all right.  And future generations of Americans will be bringing nothing but change home in order to pay off this debt.

And since the first Stimulus was such a big success, we’ve got morons like Senator Harry Reid who want more taxpayer money to flush down the D.C. toilet:

Rep. Nancy Pelosi is Getting Richer, While the Poor are Getting Poorer

When you speak to a liberal/progressive, you’ll eventually hear this aphorism:  the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.  Well, that is most certainly true with one of the biggest powerbrokers in Washington D.C. and self-professed defender of the “little people”:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) saw her net worth rise 62 percent last year, cementing her status as one of the wealthiest members of Congress.

Pelosi was worth at least $35.2 million in the 2010 calendar year, according to a financial disclosure report released Wednesday. She reported a minimum of $43.4 million in assets and about $8.2 million in liabilities.

For 2009, Pelosi reported a minimum net worth of $21.7 million.
Wow!  It looks like someone’s package was stimulated; and I’m not talking about Rep. Anthony Weiner’s.
Let’s give a big applause to all of those fat cats in Washington D.C.  It’s nice to know someone is prospering in this crappy economy.

General Electric Whores Its Way to Fortune 500 Top 10

Fortune 500 Magazine listed its annual top rankings for American businesses.  General Electric came in at #6.  If you take a look at the top 10, you will see that 4 of those companies have something in common.
General Electric, probably one of the most shameless whores in the modern era, has made an art out of scamming the American taxpayer out of their hard earned money; when the federal government implemented TARP, G.E. was right there cashing in:

General Electric said Wednesday that the federal government had agreed to insure as much as $139 billion in debt for its lending subsidiary, GE Capital. This is the second time in a month that G.E. has turned to a federal program aimed at helping companies during the global credit crisis.

GE Capital is not a bank, but granting it access to a new program from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation may reassure investors and help the lender compete with banks that already have government-protected debt, a G.E. spokesman, Russell Wilkerson, told Bloomberg News

And when the Stimulus Program was announced, they were right there slobbering all over themselves:

GE was the primary recipient of 14 stimulus grants, a spokeswoman for Recovery.gov confirmed to CNSNews.com. These 14 grants provided GE with $24.9 million in tax dollars. On four additional stimulus grants, the primary recipient of the federal money hired GE as a contractor. Recovery.gov is the administration’s website that tracks stimulus expenditures.

And it was just recently revealed that with their army of tax accountants and lawyers, they didn’t pay a dime in taxes:

General Electric paid no tax at all in America last year and even managed to get a $3.2billion ‘rebate’ from the government.

The utilities giant allocated just 7.4 per cent of its $5.1billion U.S. profits in tax - around a third of what others companies its size are paying.

But through a complex series of measures GE, which is America's largest company, will not even have to hand that over.

It makes you want to go out and buy a General Electric product doesn’t it.

Obama's Speech Has Less Integrity than Minnesota Bridge

Exactly how dishonest can Obama be? He blamed the collapse of the Minnesota bridge on negligent repairs, when in fact it was due to structural problems. Even that liberal rag the New York Times reported on this catastrophe:

WASHINGTON — Investigators said Monday that the Interstate 35W bridge in Minneapolis, which collapsed into the Mississippi River on Aug. 1, killing 13, came down because of a flaw in its design.

The designers had specified a metal plate that was too thin to serve as a junction of several girders, investigators say.

The bridge was designed in the 1960s and lasted 40 years. But like most other bridges, it gradually gained weight during that period, as workers installed concrete structures to separate eastbound and westbound lanes and made other changes, adding strain to the weak spot. At the time of the collapse, crews had brought tons of equipment and material onto the deck for a repair job.

This administration has spent billions on infrastructure projects. Anyone with a pair of eyes has seen the American Recovery and Reinvestment signs littering the roads. And he’s trying to make the case that we aren’t spending enough on these projects?

I will acknowledge one correct statement that the anointed one made. We want a smart, lean and responsible government. Unfortunately, we have a government that doesn’t meet any of those requirements.

Duke Energy Guarantees $10 Million Loan for Democratic Convention

Duke Energy has agreed to underwrite the 2012 Democratic Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. The line of credit is worth $10 million dollars:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Duke Energy Corp., one of Charlotte's biggest companies, is guaranteeing a $10 million line of credit for the 2012 Democratic National Convention, The Charlotte Observer reported Saturday.

The guarantee would put Duke Energy's stockholders — not Duke's electric customers — at risk if the Democratic National Committee defaults on the loan, said company spokesman Tom Williams.

It’s the least they could do for the company’s biggest benefactor. Duke received $204 million in Stimulus Money from the Democratic Party and Obama regime:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Duke Energy has signed the agreement to formalize the $204 million in economic stimulus funds it will receive from the federal government, the power provider said Thursday.

Duke said it will use the funds from the Department of Energy to modernize its power distribution system and install digital equipment on the transmission system in the Carolinas. It said the funding will save or create about 1,000 jobs in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and the Carolinas.

The grant is part of $3.4 billion in government support for 100 projects announced in October.

Duke Energy Corp. is one of the nation's largest power generators with 4 million customers in the Carolinas and the Midwest.

What’s $10 million amongst friends? Or should I say the taxpayers?

Obama: Stimulus Helped States Balance Budgets

Barack Obama, the idiot in chief, declared at the Governor’s Conference that stimulus money helped the states balance their budgets, even though they won’t admit it:

"As the Recovery Act funds that saw through many states over the last two years are phasing out and it is undeniable that the Recovery Act helped every single state represented in this room manage your budgets, whether you admit it or not," President Obama told Governors on Monday morning

The Recovery Act allowed the states to kick the can down the road. Now that the music has stopped, everyone is looking for a chair to sit in and none can be found. What did we get for the trillion in federal aid? We still have double digit unemployment. Gas prices are rising. Inflation is rearing its ugly head. And China, who owns a large portion of our debt, is about to become our feudal lords.

Ronald Reagan once asked, “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”

The only ones who can answer in the affirmative are government workers.

Future generations are going to ask whatever happened to the American dream. They are going to look back with an accusative eye and point their fingers at us. We will be given the moniker, “The Selfish Generation.” And no one can deny it.
