Slap Shot: A Movie Made for Men

Slap Shot has to be one of the most politically incorrect movies of all time.  And I loved it!  I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.   I wish a squishy, millennial libtard could watch it with me so I can measure the reaction on his face.  I can just imagine the thought processes of an emasculated wussy sitting in a stupor as the characters in this film assault his delicate sensibilities.

In a day and age when a president of the United States wears mom jeans, a helmet, and bubble wrap when riding a bicycle, it felt good to reflect upon a time when men were men, and a leader of the free world could throw a baseball.

The seventies was a great era, except of course the fashion.  What in the hell was going on there?  I still remember the bellbottom pants, white belts, platform shoes, and god awful flowery shirts.  How that ensemble happened is a mystery to me.  But to be fair, the cars and music were great.  And there was none of this touchy-feely crap that has permeated our society.  Slap Shot definitely has none of that nonsense in the story line.
What I found amazing is that this movie is based on an actual minor league hockey team.  Some of the exploits are so over-the-top that you’d say there is no way that could’ve happened.  Even some of the characters are loosely based on some of the players.

Slap Shot is a man’s movie and a top 10 cult favorite.  Hell, even today’s lesbian might enjoy it.  They’re as much of a man as our president.

Americans Reliving Carter Era Sentiment

They say Americans have a short memory. And I’m beginning to believe that is true. We are now reliving the Carter era. That is something I hoped we would never experience again:

(Reuters) - U.S. consumer sentiment worsened sharply in early August, falling to the lowest level in more than three decades, after retail sales posted the biggest gain in four months in July.

High unemployment, stagnant wages, gridlock in Congress, and a stock market slump all contributed to a consumer mood that was as grim as when Jimmy Carter was President during the recession of 1980 and interest rates were more than 20 percent.

We haven’t reached the high interest rates yet. But Bernanke and the Feds are doing their damnedest to destroy the value of the dollar.

Obama Boogies in Carteresque Misery Index

The Misery Index is making a comeback.  That late 70’s and early 80’s relic has stripped off its bellbottom pants and platform shoes, and is boogieing to a whole new mirror ball.  Barack Obama is skating the country around the Jimmy Carter rink of inflation and stagnation.

In fact, misery, as measured in the unofficial Misery Index that simply totals the unemployment and inflation rates, is at a 28-year high, reflective of how weak the economic recovery has been and how far there is to go.

The index, first compiled during the soaring inflation days of the 1970s by economist Arthur Okun, is registering a nausea-inducing 12.7—9.1 percent for unemployment and 3.6 percent for annualized inflation—a number not seen since 1983. The index has been above 10 since November 2009 and had been under double-digits from June 1993 through May 2008.

All I have to say to Obama is:  You’re Miss Misery.  Set Me Free.  Please…please…please…
