President Trump Displays "Stable Genius" on Targeted Tariffs

I’m beginning to believe President Trump is a “stable genius” particularly when it comes to the economy.  Sure, some things are obvious such as reducing taxes and getting rid of burdensome regulations to propel growth; any reasonable person can deduce these two factors as an impediment to prosperity, but to target specific tariffs to induce foreign competitors to relocate their manufactures to the United States is genius.  Here is an excerpt from the Daily Wire:

Just one week after the Trump administration announced a massive 30% tariff on imported solar panels, one of China's largest solar panel manufacturers announced plans to open a manufacturing plant in the United States.

The company, JinkoSolar, said on Monday that they have received the green light from their board of directors to "finalize planning for the construction of an advanced solar manufacturing facility in the U.S." CNN Money reports:

The statement suggested Jinko's decision was tied to the new tariffs, saying that the company "continues to closely monitor treatment of imports of solar cells and modules under the U.S. trade laws."

When Donald Trump proposed raising tariffs during his campaign, I had visions of Smoot-Hawley which was a disaster for this country.  However, that law was protectionist and broad in scope, and didn’t distinguish fair trade from unfair trade.  We are seeing the benefits of targeted tariffs.

I don’t know about everybody else, but I’m beginning to believe.  It would be a shame if the American people got tired of all this winning and voted for Democrats in the midterms.

Scowls, Jeers, Cheers and Chants at the State of the Union Address

If you watched the state of the union address last night, you couldn’t help but notice that this country has a major political party invested in poverty, misery, division and contempt for the well-being of American citizens. Why do I say that? Because Democrats would rather stew in their hatred than participate in our country’s good fortune,

Democrats scowled, grumbled and spat invective as President Trump read off a compendium of great economic news that couldn’t have happened under his predecessor. You would’ve thought the self-proclaimed “party of the people” could’ve mustered a half-hearted clap at record low unemployment for blacks and other minorities; but that was asking too much. Here is a video documenting their contempt for you and me:

They just don't hate the American people; they hate the very essence of this country as expressed by Joy Reid in a tweet.

Church ... family ... police ... military ... the national anthem ... Trump trying to call on all the tropes of 1950s-era nationalism. The goal of this speech appears to be to force the normalization of Trump on the terms of the bygone era his supporters are nostalgic for.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez practically ran out the House chamber when the gallery chanted USA.

I want to thank Democrats for showing their true colors. We’ve been waiting a long time for them to finally shed their skins and slither into the daylight. Go ahead and bask in your hated of God, country and the American way of life. It’s nice to know who our real enemies are.

Welcome to Progressive North Carolina: A Poorer and Unequal State

I have to admit, I enjoy reading the opinion pages in our state’s regional rags.  There isn’t an Observer in North Carolina that doesn’t reek of progressivism.  But hey, these people are objective professionals looking after the best interest of the citizens of North Carolina.  Yeah, right.

I especially get a kick when these rags quote studies from nonprofit organizations and try to pass it off as nonpartisan, as though we’re incapable of looking up these organizations on the internet and see who is running them.  What is surprising is how many progressive nonprofits there are in this state.  I believe the Civitas Institute mapped around 170 at last count.  I only know of two conservative think tanks in North Carolina and I just cited one of them.

Think First NC is a new progressive organization.  I’m not exactly sure who is funding them, but we shouldn’t be surprised if Z Smith Reynolds Foundation and George Soros’s Open Society is involved along with a few other suspects.  Money is fungible when it comes to these organizations.  Only the mob is more creative.

Think First NC sponsored a study that was presented by one of their minions in the News and Observer entitled, What Carolina Comeback?  NC a Poorer, More Unequal State.  Here is an excerpt:

Take what should be the central feature of any recovery: widespread improvements in the income levels and living standards of ordinary households. In 2014, the last year with data, the typical (median) household in the state had an inflation-adjusted annual income that was significantly lower than when the recession started in 2007. Over that period, inflation-adjusted median household income fell by $4,449, dropping from $51,005 to $46,556. The income of the typical household fell by $2,814 during the recession and then dropped another $1,635 during the recovery. In short, the typical household lost ground during the recession and then kept losing ground even after the recovery took hold.

The fall in median household income levels has affected every major racial and ethnic group, all of which were, at a minimum, no better off in 2014 than in 2007. Specifically, the typical non-Hispanic white, African-American and Hispanic households all saw their incomes fall significantly over that period. And place has provided no protection against falling median household income levels, which currently are statistically unchanged or lower than their pre-recessionary values in 98 of 100 counties.

This is supposed to be an indictment on Gov. Pat McCrory’s administration and the republican General Assembly.  However, one cannot separate the policies of the Obama administration with the economy in general.  No state has escaped the machinations of Washington D.C.  As a matter fact, North Carolina has improved its economic standing in spite of Barack Obama and the Democratic Party’s power grab.

The decisions Gov. McCrory and the republicans in the General Assembly made improved the state’s fiscal solvency.  The Mercatus Institute noted the only state in the Union to improve its service-solvency ranking was North Carolina.  We were also ranked 8th in budget solvency and trust fund solvency.  That wouldn’t have happened under a Democratic administration.  Had they taken over we would’ve ended up like Puerto Rico.

Progressives love to talk about median income while failing to discuss the purchasing power in individual states.  The Tax Foundation mapped the price levels of goods and services throughout the United State and contrasted that with per capita-income, adjusted for taxes and prices.  As of 2015, North Carolina had a 35th ranking a 4+ improvement in ranking.

Another factor progressives don’t consider is state to state migration.  North Carolina always ranks in the top 5 as we did in 2015.  If North Carolina is a poorer and unequal state maybe somebody should tell all these people who are moving here.

The Progressive Myth of European Socialism

I had a memorable conversation with a millennial on the economy and politics in general.  He basically declared the United States was a hellhole and he was stuck living here.  I was somewhat taken aback considering his mother is a legal immigrant from Jamaica.  So I commented there isn’t a utopia and pointed out all of the illegal aliens that were working in the subdivision.  These people, I emphasized, violated our laws and sovereignty to have a better life; yet, you’re unhappy in a country that millions risk life and limb to get to.  I then asked him, what country would he consider moving to?  He declared, Spain.

I’ve had many conversations with pie-in-the-sky socialists, many of them way older than this kid.  When I ask this same question, I’ll get the usual sarcastic response, ‘America, love it or leave it.’  At least this kid gave me an answer.  So, I informed him that Spain has a 20% unemployment rate and they have two separatist movements.  He then walked away.

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard teat squawkers glorify European socialism.  Even our own president wants to emulate them.  To that I say, we are Americans not Europeans.  If you want to be a European get on the next boat and don’t let the waves lap your ass.

This whole European socialist paradise is a myth.  If you take the median income of each country and couple that with purchasing power, few European countries would rank above Mississippi, the state all liberals look down their noses at.  Here is an excerpt from Mises:

With the exception of Luxembourg ($38,502), Norway ($35,528), and Switzerland ($35,083), all countries shown would fail to rank as high-income states were they to become part of the United States. In fact, most would fare worse than Mississippi, the poorest state.

For example, Mississippi has a higher median income ($23,017) than 18 countries measured here. The Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and the United Kingdom all have median income levels below $23,000 and are thus below every single US state. Not surprisingly, the poorest OECD members (Chile, Mexico, and Turkey) have median incomes far below Mississippi.

Germany, Europe's economic powerhouse, has a median income ($25,528) level below all but 9 US states. Finland ranks with Germany in this regard ($25,730), and France's median income ($24,233) is lower than both Germany and Finland. Denmark fares better and has a median income ($27,304) below all but 13 US state.

And that doesn’t take into account Mississippi’s low cost of living.  But we all know facts and figures don’t make a difference to liberals.  They’ll keep pining for a socialist paradise that doesn’t exist and never will.

Retail Apocalypse Now!

It’s here.  Mall rats are scattering in a panic.  It’s the Retail Apocalypse Now!

WASHINGTON – The long feared “retail apocalypse” may be hitting with little or no fanfare if a growing list of store-closing plans by major chains is any indication.
Major U.S. retailers have announced the closing of more than 6,000 stores from coast to coast. The list includes only those retailers that have announced plans to close more than 10 outlets this year and next.
For example, 1,784 Radio Shack stores are vanishing, 400 stores in the Office Depot/Office Max chain by 2016, and 340 Dollar Tree/Family Dollar stores.
The growing list of stores getting shuttered coincides with the decline in discretionary consumer spending over the past six months.
“Expect to see more storefronts closed at malls across the country,” one retail watcher told WND. “It’s getting ugly out there.

N.C. Teat Squawkers Demand Medicaid Expansion

The teat squawkers are in full-throated mode in North Carolina.  Newspaper editors and healthcare providers are demanding our legislators take the Obama bribe, and accept $15 billion in “free government money.”  Of course, that would expand our welfare rolls by approximately 550,000 people.  But hey, that money is free!  According to a number of physicians it would be plain stupid not to accept such a generous “gift.”

Dr. Charles van der Horst, an AIDS researcher at professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, said it makes no sense to surrender $15 billion the federal government would pay for the expanded coverage. An outside consultant for the state Department of Health and Human Services said the expansion would generate 23,000 net jobs through 2021 and annual real disposable income of $1 billion.

"And what do you think the voters will say that we're turning this down?" Van Der Horst asked, adding Republican elected leaders in other states support the expansion. Without the expansion, North Carolina hospitals will continue to have pay for charity care in emergency rooms, the cost of which will keep getting passed along to patients with private insurance, he said.

"It's morally wrong to not expand Medicaid," said Dr. Mohan Chilukuri with Durham Family Medicine. "It fiscally doesn't make any sense."

An outside consultant hired by the state claims expanding Medicaid will generate 23,000 jobs and provide an ANNUAL REAL DISPOSABLE INCOME OF $1 BILLION?  Bullshit!  That money has to come from somewhere, either through taxation, borrowing, or worse printing, which in itself is tax.  And let’s disabuse ourselves that this is “real disposable income.”  This is not real wealth; it’s manufactured.  Sooner or later we as country are going to pay for the sins of the Federal Reserve.

Another problem with the expansion of Medicaid, or should I say “free healthcare” is that it distorts the market.  The adverse effect is higher cost of goods and services.  When people believe something is “free” they’re going to abuse it.  The question remains, when does it stop?  Llewellyn H. Rockwell answered that for us in his essay Subsidizing Sickness.  Here is an excerpt:
Thus spake Mises. He is observing that there is a moral hazard associated with socialized and subsidized medicine. Because there is no clear line between sickness and health, and where you stand on the continuum is bound up with individual choice, the more medical services are provided by the state as a part of welfare, the more the programs reinforce the conditions that bring about the need to make use of them. This one insight helps explain how socialized medicine takes away the incentive to be healthy, and maximizes the problem of overutilization of resources. Hence, socialized medicine must fail for the same reasons all socialism must fail: it offers no system for rationally allocating resources, and instead promotes overutilization of all resources, ending in bankruptcy.

Considering the federal government’s spending, that prediction isn’t far away.

Nancy Pelosi's "Idiocracy" Talking Points

God forbid, the Democratic Party wins the House of Representatives during the midterm.  If that comes to pass, Nancy Pelosi will once again become Speaker.  It’s bad enough we have a clueless nimrod in the White House, but to have the complete legislature resemble the movie “Idiocracy” once again is intolerable.

I laughed out loud when the Botox princess stated that this country doesn’t have a spending problem, and that investment in education is what brings revenue into the treasury.  Here is an excerpt from the Hill:

The Democratic House leader said she backed a “big, bold proposal,” that targeted ending subsidies for large oil companies and eliminating loopholes in the tax code.
"It isn't as much a spending problem as much as it is priorities," she said, arguing that tax subsidies were a better target than additional cuts that could hit programs such as education.

"Nothing brings more money to the Treasury of the United States than investment in education of the American people, so we have to recognize that," she said. "Cuts in education, scientific research and the rest are harmful and they are what are affected by the sequestration."
This woman is out of touch.  83% of the American people believe the federal government has a spending problem; but the princess doesn’t want to hear that.  Instead, she sticks to the same old talking points.

The supposed subsidies the congresswoman accuses the oil companies of having is no different than what other businesses get:  deductible business expenses.  But because they deal in oil, they can easily be demonized.  And as for education, how are those degrees going to add to the treasury when no one can get a job?  Answer that one princess.
The business owners I’ve met are those whom learn a trade, and later in life decided to go on their own.  They then hire others as business expands.  A piece of paper had nothing to do with it.  But I’ll tell you what does affect these entrepreneurs: relentless taxation and warrantless red tape from government bureaucrats.  But you can’t tell that to a person who believes food stamps are good for the economy.

Study Proves Democrats Destroyed the Economy

Here’s a study you won’t find in the op-ed section of your local liberal rag.  You can be damn sure of that.
A new study from the widely respected National Bureau of Economic Research released this week has confirmed beyond question that the left's race-baiting attacks on the housing market (the Community Reinvestment Act--enacted under Carter, made shockingly more aggressive under Clinton) is directly responsible for imploding the housing market and destroying the economy.

The study painstakingly sorted through failed home loans that caused the housing market collapse and identified an overwhelming connection between them and CRA mortgages.

Again, let's review:

-President Bush went to Congress repeatedly for years warning them that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were going to destroy the economy (17 times in 2008 alone). Democrats continuously ignored him, shut down his proposals along party lines and continued raiding the institutions for campaign contributions on their way down.

But what you will find are reports on how these financial institutions screwed over the “little guy.”  The Charlotte Observer reported a record amount of fines collected by the courts.  Most of it due to the federal government’s manufactured housing bubble.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte and the Western District of North Carolina obtained record collections – more than $5 billion – in civil and criminal actions in 2012.
The $5.05 billion was the fourth highest collection amount among the nation’s 94 U.S. Attorney’s Offices. Much of the money, federal prosecutors said, came from a $25 billion settlement with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers, including Bank of America and Wells Fargo, to resolve allegations of abuse and fraud in mortgage loan servicing and foreclosures.

The $5 billion in collections represents a huge increase over the 2011 budget year, when the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte and the Western District of North Carolina collected more than $13.5 million in civil and criminal actions.

The vast majority of the 2012 money – about $5.04 billion – was collected in civil actions. More than $11.3 million was collected in criminal and civil forfeitures and more than $4.4 million was collected in criminal actions.
Nearly $6.4 million was paid to the federal court for distribution to victims of crimes, including individuals, companies and government agencies.

Could those government agencies include Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?  Because the Democrats would have us believe they were the biggest victim of all.

A Total Systemic Economic Collapse is Coming

Before you pooh-pooh this, I suggest you watch this video all the way through. As per the commentators, the Washington D.C. paradigm cannot be reformed. A President Romney can't fix this massive problem. A catatrosphic economic collapse is heading our way.

One can only hope they're wrong. But the evidence is overwhelming.

College Graduates Will Rue the Day They Screamed for 'Hope and Change'

The Anointed One is becoming a broken record. His only solution to our country’s economic woes is government spending. He wants to dig a bigger hole of debt than we already have. Speaking of unfathomable debt, college graduates are having a hard time finding work.

(CNSNews.com) - There was a net decline of 406,000 in the number of Americans age 25 or older with a bachelor’s degree or higher who were working in the United States in June, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A net of 309,000 in this demographic simply dropped out of the labor force, which means they neither had a job in June nor actively tried to find one, according to BLS.

The number of Americans age 25 or older with a bachelor’s degree or higher who were “unemployed”—meaning they did not have a job but did actively try to find one—increased by 96,000 in June.

Our esteemed president has proposed a community college/private business initiative that would translate into jobs. The only problem is no one is hiring, and won’t until this fool is out of office.
If you college graduates think the cost of your education is an ordeal, just wait until the national debt kicks in. You will rue the day you screamed for Hope and Change.

Obama's D.C.-Centric Solution to Our Economic Woes

Obama laments the stalemate in Washington. I say thank God we have a stalemate. This D.C.-centric statist believes that government is the answer to all our problems, when in fact it is they who’ve created this mess.

This president hasn’t received one vote for any of his budgets. That is how irresponsible this man is. Yet, he’s going to fix our economy. What a joke.

Here is a transcript from the joker-in-chief:

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been talking a lot about America’s economic future. I’ve told you how I believe we should go about creating strong, sustained growth; how we should pay down our long-term debt in a balanced way; and most of all, what we should do right now to create good, middle-class jobs, so people who work hard can get ahead.

This isn’t some abstract debate or trivial argument. I’ve said that this is the defining issue of our time, and I mean it. I’ve said that this is a make-or-break moment for the middle class, and I believe it. The decisions we make over the next few years will have an enormous impact on the country we live in, and the one we pass on to our children.

Right now, we’re still fighting our way back from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The economy is growing again, but it’s not growing fast enough. Our businesses have created 4.3 million new jobs over the last 27 months, but we’re not creating them fast enough. And we’re facing some pretty serious headwinds – from the effects of the recent spike in gas prices, to the financial crisis in Europe.

But here’s the thing. We have the answers to these problems. We have plenty of big ideas and technical solutions from both sides of the aisle. That’s not what’s holding us back. What’s holding us back is a stalemate in Washington.

Last September, I sent Congress a jobs bill full of the kinds of bipartisan ideas that could have put over a million Americans back to work and helped bolster our economy against outside shocks. I sent them a plan that would have reduced our deficit by $4 trillion in a balanced way that pays for the investments we need by cutting unnecessary spending and asking the wealthiest Americans to pay a little bit more in taxes.

Since then, Congress has passed a few parts of that jobs bill, like a tax cut that's allowing working Americans to keep more of your paycheck every week. But on most of the ideas that would create jobs and grow our economy, Republicans in Congress haven’t lifted a finger. They’d rather wait until after the election in November. Just this past week, one of them said, “Why not wait for the reinforcements?” That’s a quote. And you can bet plenty of his colleagues are thinking the same thing.

I think that’s wrong. This isn’t about who wins or loses in Washington. This is about your jobs, your paychecks, your children’s future. There’s no excuse for Congress to stand by and do nothing while so many families are struggling. None.

Right now, Congress should pass a bill to help states put thousands of teachers, firefighters and police officers back on the job. They should have passed a bill a long time ago to put thousands of construction workers back to work rebuilding our roads and bridges and runways. And instead of just talking about job creators, they should give small-business owners a tax break for hiring more workers and paying them higher wages.

Right now, Congress should give every responsible homeowner the opportunity to save an average of $3,000 a year by refinancing their mortgage. They should extend tax credits for clean energy manufacturers so we don’t walk away from 40,000 good jobs. And instead of giving tax breaks to companies who ship jobs overseas, Congress should take that money and use it to cover moving expenses for companies that are bringing jobs back to America. There’s no reason to wait.

Every problem we face is within our power to solve. What’s lacking is our politics. Remind your Members of Congress why you sent them to Washington in the first place. Tell them to stop worrying about the next election and start worrying about the next generation. I’m ready to work with anyone – Republican, Democrat, or Independent – who is serious about moving this country forward. And I hope Members of Congress will join me.

Thanks, and have a great weekend

Obama Denies Health Care Law is Affecting Businesses

Businesses aren’t affected by Obamacare regulations? Instead of calling Obama the Anointed One, maybe a more apt moniker would be Bubble Boy. The only businesses that aren’t affected are those who received waivers. And the only way you’re going to get one of those is if you’re politically connected. Here is an excerpt from HotAir.com on how many people received the golden ticket:

Well today, the day after the President’s State of the Union, the new waivers are up. You may recall that there were 222 such waivers approved in November. That number has now jumped to 729 through the end of December. The total number of people covered by the waivers has gone from 1.5M to just under 2.2M. The list includes the usual assortment of union locals and businesses.

Of course, Obama hasn’t heard anyone complaining about his signature piece of legislation. They’re not at his fundraisers.

Obama Retracts 'Economy is Doing Fine'

It didn’t take long for the RNC to mock the Anointed One on his ridiculous statement that the economy is doing fine. Nor, did it take long for Chicago Jesus to retract it:

"It is absolutely clear the economy is not doing fine," he said in a brief appearance before cameras in the Oval Office following a meeting with Philippine President Benigno Aquino.

“That’s the reason I had a press conference," Obama continued. "That’s why I spent yesterday, the day before yesterday, this past week, this past month and this past year talking about how we can make the economy stronger. The economy is not doing fine. There are too many people out of work. The housing market is still weak, too many homes underwater and that’s precisely why I asked Congress to start taking some steps that can make a difference.”

It must be tiring having to constantly talk about the economy at all those fundraisers. This president has the stamina of a thoroughbred.

Barack Obama: The Private Sector is Doing Just Fine

Dear Leader has spoken! The private sector is doing just fine! So it is said, so let it be written. Spread the word!

The economy is doing so great the food stamp program has doubled since Obama has been in office. How is that possible? According to the haloed one, it is the public sector employees who are suffering. I had no idea that so many teachers, policemen, and firefighters were enrolled on this welfare program.

The Daily Caller reported the following:

The vast majority of federal spending in the Senate farm bill, which is estimated to cost over $100 billion annually, is going toward food stamps, representing a 100 percent increase since President Barack Obama took office, according to Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions.

“This legislation will spend $82 billion on food stamps next year, and an estimated $770 billion over the next ten years. To put these figures in perspective, we will spend $40 billion federal dollars next year on roads and bridges,” said Sessions, the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee.

“Food stamp spending has more than quadrupled since the year 2001. It has increased 100 percent since President Obama took office,” he said.

Gallup Poll: 85% of Small Businesses Will Not Hire This Year

Barack Obama declared from the mountaintop that ‘the economy is growing stronger and the recovery is speeding up.’ But according to a recent Gallup Poll, 85% of small businesses surveyed, stated they will not hire this year:

PRINCETON, NJ -- U.S. small-business owners who aren't hiring -- 85% of those surveyed -- are most likely to say the reasons they are not doing so include not needing additional employees; worries about weak business conditions, including revenues; cash flow; and the overall U.S. economy. Additionally, nearly half of small-business owners point to potential healthcare costs (48%) and government regulations (46%) as reasons. One in four are not hiring because they worry they may not be in business in 12 months.
