Truth and the Voter Run Senator Kay Hagan's Gauntlet of Lies

Election Day is nearing and liberals are frantic.  North Carolina is inundated with campaign ads.  Senator Kay Hagan’s leg humpers will do whatever they can to get her back to Washington D.C.  So she can shove their agenda down our throats.  Truth once again has become a casualty in this Liberal War on the American People.

I’m reminded of an old Clint Eastwood movie, “The Gauntlet” where a police officer is tasked to get a witness to the courthouse.  Unfortunately for Ben Shockley and his charge, powerful people want them dead before they can get there.  In this case, truth and the voter are running Kay Hagan’s and her minions’ gauntlet of lies while they’re trying to make it to the polls.

Here is an ad outright lying about Thom Tillis’ record on education:

They claim he cut $500 million from the education budget.  Not true.  Carolina Journal reported the following:

The simple explanation is that the $500 million figure is essentially an apples-to-oranges comparison. I have collected the enacted budget figures from the last seven years. I chose this timeframe to include data from the last recession. The state budget had to be cut during this time to reflect a decrease in tax revenue to the state, so I thought this would give a truer picture of what has happened with education spending in North Carolina.

The commercials say, “Speaker Thom Tillis cut almost $500 million from education.” Thom Tillis has been speaker since the 2011-12 fiscal year, when the first budget was passed under his leadership, until the most recent budget that was passed in the 2014-2015 fiscal year. If we look at all the budgets under his leadership, total education spending increased by nearly $1 billion. If we look at the most recent budget cycle, it increased by a little over $700 million

I wonder what the line is on truth making it to the polls.  Odds are against it.

Obama Proposes Expansion of Student Loan Bubble

Here we are on the verge of another government sponsored bubble. What the feds did to the housing market, they’re doing to college education. Do easy credit, low interest rates, and soaring prices sound familiar? It should. Just turn around and look at your overvalued house.

Barack Obama announced in his weekly address, that he wants Congress to prevent interest rates on federally funded student loans from doubling in July; at the same time, he wants to come up with a solution to make college education affordable:

In America, higher education cannot be a luxury. It’s an economic imperative that every family must be able to afford. That’s why next week I’ll be visiting colleges across the country, talking to students about how we can make higher education more affordable – and what’s at stake right now if Congress doesn’t do something about it. You see, if Congress doesn’t act, on July 1st interest rates on some student loans will double. Nearly seven and half million students will end up owing more on their loan payments. That would be a tremendous blow. And it’s completely preventable.

This issue didn’t come out of nowhere. For some time now, I’ve been calling on Congress to take steps to make higher education more affordable – to prevent these interest rates from doubling, to extend the tuition tax credit that has saved middle-class families millions of dollars, and to double the number of work-study jobs over the next five years.

This kind of rhetoric reminds me of the Clinton-era affordable housing initiative. And guess what? The results are about the same. Last year, outstanding student loans passed the trillion dollar mark. Do you hear that bubble being stretched?

Of course, big government politicians like Barack Obama, seldom see the consequences of their actions. Their policies have flooded universities with easy cash. As a result, tuition has skyrocketed. Soon, we’ll witness a tsunami of bankruptcies, and the taxpayers will suffer another round of debt forgiveness spankings.

Educators Are the New Millionaires?

In his weekly address, Barack Obama lamented the high cost of education. I wonder if he would be shocked to find out that today’s new millionaires are educators:

According to a report released last week by the Spectrem Group's Millionaire Corner, the number of millionaire households in the U.S. rose 2% last year to 8.2 million. And capturing the greatest number of millionaire households were ones that included a manager as a breadwinner.

But while managers are tops on the list, accounting for 17% of households with $1 million to $5 million in net assets excluding their primary residence, educators are close behind with 12% of the millionaire pie, according to the report.

That's right -- educators.

What gives these occupations their relatively large slice is that many are living in dual-income households, says George Walper, president of the Spectrum Group.

Compare that to other high-paying jobs such as attorneys, doctors, or dentists, which only account for 2% of the millionaire pool. People in those ultra-demanding occupations are often the sole breadwinners in their families, with spouses or partners holding down the fort at home. And when it's time to retire, the payout may be less.

Let’s just hope that dual-incomes are the reason for educators being ranked as the new millionaires. Public service is a calling; it shouldn’t be a profit center.
