The Puzzle of Identity Oriented Politics

After I finished reading a New York Times op-ed about South Carolina’s newly appointed U.S. senator, I was puzzled as to why this “prestigious” paper would publish the incoherent ravings of a political science professor.  This lunatic is upset that a Republican governor, who happens to be a woman whose parents are immigrants from India, would have the nerve to appoint a black conservative to fill out the term of a white conservative.  Why the audacity of that.
According to Professor Adolph L. Reed Jr. the appointment of Tim Scott is just a ruse.  The esteemed professor believes this black man is being used much like a bug zapper to attract other blacks to the Republican Party.   It wasn’t because Mr. Scott’s ideals and beliefs mirror that of fellow conservatives in the Palmetto State.  That had nothing to do with it at all.  It was because of his race.  Such are the musings of an identity oriented academic.

Not only is Professor Reed an elite racist, he is also inconsistent.  Here is his take on the Tea Party:
Mr. Scott’s background is also striking: raised by a poor single mother, he defeated, with Tea Party backing, two white men in a 2010 Republican primary: a son of Thurmond and a son of former Gov. Carroll A. Campbell Jr. But his politics, like those of the archconservative Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas, are utterly at odds with the preferences of most black Americans. Mr. Scott has been staunchly anti-tax, anti-union and anti-abortion.
Even if the Republicans managed to distance themselves from the thinly veiled racism of the TeaParty adherents who have moved the party rightward, they wouldn’t do much better among black voters than they do now. I suspect that appointments like Mr. Scott’s are directed less at blacks — whom they know they aren’t going to win in any significant numbers — than at whites who are inclined to vote Republican but don’t want to have to think of themselves, or be thought of by others, as racist.
Why would the Tea Party vote a black man into office if they’re a bunch of racist?  This is laughable.  What is even more laughable is the esteemed professor calling the Republicans cynics, when in fact it is he who’s the cynic:
For Mr. Scott, the true test will come in 2014, when he will presumably run for a full six-year term. As Mr. Obama has shown, the question is not whether whites are willing to vote for a black candidate, but whether black candidates can put together winning coalitions (no matter their racial makeup) and around what policies. I suspect black South Carolinians will not be drawn to Mr. Scott.
The trope of the black conservative has retained a man-bites-dog newsworthiness that is long past its shelf life. Clichés about fallen barriers are increasingly meaningless; symbols don’t make for coherent policies. Republicans will not gain significant black support unless they take policy positions that advance black interests. No number of Tim Scotts — or other cynical tokens — will change that.
I have a suggestion for Professor Reed.  Why don’t we elect people who advance the interest of all Americans, and not just subsets?  That concept is alien to liberals, especially the ones in academia.

Senator Jim DeMint: Obama is the Most Anti-American Administration in My Lifetime

Senator Jim DeMint calls it like he sees it. The Obama Administration is the most anti-American in our lifetime:

"We saw within a few days that this President was going to be heavy-handed, he was going to implement his agenda and pay back his political allies, and it just went on from there to ObamaCare and then to Dodd-Frank," DeMint said. "It has been the most anti-business and I consider anti-American administration in my lifetime. Things that are just so anathema to the principles of freedom, and everything he has come up with centralizes more power in Washington, creates more socialist-style, collectivist policies. This president is doing something that's so far out of the realm of anything Republicans ever did wrong, it's hard to even imagine."

Jimmy Carter was an incompetent. Obama is a different animal; something along the lines of Article III Section III.

Sen. Jim DeMint Calls for Geithner Resignation

Now that the S&P has downgraded America’s credit rating, the chorus of GOP voices is calling for the resignation of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. The choir leader is tea party favorite Senator Jim DeMint:

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) responded to the nation's downgrade at the hands of Standard & Poor's by calling for the resignation of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Saying "enough is enough," the Tea Party favorite pressured President Obama to remove his top economic official and adopt a new perspective.

"The President should demand that Secretary Geithner resign and immediately replace him with someone who will help Washington focus on balancing our budget and allowing the private sector to create jobs," he said in a statement. "For months he opposed all efforts to reduce the debt in return for a debt ceiling increase. His opposition to serious spending and debt reforms has been reckless and now the American people will pay the price."

Not only does Lil’ Timmy need to resign, so does Obama and his legion of czars.

Sen. Harry Reid Attributes Genius of NLRB to Founding Fathers

Obama’s National Labor Relations Board has fanned a firestorm.  Boeing, a Washington state based company, has had serious problems with the labor unions, and decided to open a plant in South Carolina, which is a right to work state.  The socialist at the NLRB are not pleased with this decision and have sued.

The NLRB has become a threat to all Americans.  Any agency that controls the movement of businesses can control its citizenry as well.  Senator Jim DeMint recognizes the seriousness of this lawsuit:

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) accused the agency last week of operating outside of the bounds of law.
”It’s clearly outside of the authority of this federal government to be threatening and bullying and trying to intimidate companies,” DeMint said of the agency's action.

DeMint joined with 18 senators on May 4 in writing a letter to President Obama condemning the NLRB’s complaint:

“If the NLRB prevails, it will only encourage companies to make their investments in foreign nations, moving jobs and economic growth overseas. America will not win the future if Washington penalizes workers in states that have discovered winning economic strategies,” said the letter.

Of course, the statist control freaks differ.  Senator Harry Reid attributes NLRB to the genius of our Founding Fathers:

Reid, however, said the NLRB is doing what it was set up to do.

“The Founders created a system of checks and balances — three branches of government, for example, and two chambers of the Congress — precisely because they anticipated these passions,” Reid said on the Senate floor.

“Long after that system was created, a new independent federal agency was created in the same spirit of checks and balances,” said Reid. “That agency is the National Labor Relations Board, and it acts as a check on employers and employees alike.”

We did have a system of checks and balances, until the 17th Amendment was implemented.  Now, the states are deprived of an advocate.  Populism rules the day.  Only a moron like Sen. Harry Reid could find a commonality with our Founding fathers and the NLRB.

Senator Jim DeMint Addresses Tea Party Caucus

When Senator Jim DeMint speaks, tea partiers listen. No one has more courage than the man from the Palmetto State. He bucked his party and went after the RINOS. He even bagged a few.

If there ever was a defacto leader of this amorphous citizen uprising; it would be Jim DeMint.
