Swamp Chews Up and Spits Out EPA Admin. Scott Pruitt

President Trump’s EPA administrator has resigned. The Swamp’s unrelenting attacks on Scott Pruitt was more than he and his family could stand. But let’s be honest. This former congressman from Oklahoma gave his enemies the weapons that laid him low. His political demise almost mirrored that of Secretary Tom Price over at HHS. How could this happen?

I’m having a hard time understanding how these two politicians let themselves fall prey to liberal fanatics. Did they think this was a level playing field? What gave them the idea that transgressions committed by predecessors would be afforded to them as well? Did they think Beltway courtesans were going to give them a fair shake?

As an outsider, I’m astonished at Scott Pruitt and Tom Price’s bad judgement. These two were not political novices. They should’ve known, or at least sensed, that they had a target on their backs. Here is a truism: conservatives are the enemy of big government and its enablers; therefore, you need to live an exemplary life if you’re going to run one of these agencies.

There is a double standard in Washington D.C.. We needn’t emphasize this. But here is an example as outlined by News List:

The EPA illegally used social media to push for new EPA regulations06/28/2017Judicial Watch
A December 2015 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report concluded the EPA’s use of Thunderclap to send out messages boosting the Waters of the United States rule (also known as the Clean Water Rule) “constitutes covert propaganda” and violates the legal prohibition on propaganda by a federal agency.

The GAO report found that the EPA reached 1.8 million social media users through Thunderclap, which uses a synchronized social media blast to amplify a message on platforms such as Twitter:

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) violated publicity or propaganda and anti-lobbying provisions contained in appropriations acts with its use of certain social media platforms in association with its “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rulemaking in fiscal years 2014 and 2015. Specifically, EPA violated the publicity or propaganda prohibition though its use of a platform known as Thunderclap that allows a single message to be shared across multiple Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr accounts
A subpoena was issued after McCarthy deleted nearly 6,000 text messages03/26/2015The Washington Times
Experts on federal record-keeping laws on Thursday agreed with a House committee subpoena of EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy’s cellphone records to help determine whether she was involved in a cover-up.

Rep. Lamar Smith, chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, issued the subpoena after Ms. McCarthy claimed that of nearly 6,000 text messages, just one was agency business and that she deleted the rest.

She did it just days after the committee had alerted the EPA that it may be breaking the record-keeping rules for text messages.

Paul M. Wester Jr., chief records officer at the National Archives, said he would want to see Ms. McCarthy’s phone records, too, to determine if she was telling the truth.

“I would have to see the content … and what the whole volume of text messages was before I could make that determination,” Mr. Wester said at a committee hearing on the issue.

After the Colo. mine disaster, the EPA covered up incriminating evidence to shield its agents from prosecution08/15/2017The Daily Signal
Since then, EPA has obfuscated, misdirected and lied to cover up what were at best implausible assumptions followed by reckless actions and then use of taxpayer dollars to hide the truth. So far, the bureaucrats responsible have gotten away with it.

At the same time it has argued the bad stuff just washed away, the EPA declared an expansive new Superfund site, something the agency long wanted. And after playing their role in turning the Animas orange, the EPA contractors were almost immediately rehired to address the mess. Having regional contracts, they may be in line for new Superfund work at other nearby mine sites.
The EPA knew risk of a "blowout" before the Colorado mine disaster, and then later covered up this evidence08/22/2015NBC News
Internal documents released late Friday show managers at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency were aware of the potential for a catastrophic "blowout" at an abandoned mine that could release "large volumes" of wastewater laced with toxic heavy metals.

EPA released the documents following weeks of prodding from The Associated Press and other media organizations. EPA and contract workers accidentally unleashed 3 million gallons of contaminated wastewater on Aug. 5 as they inspected the idled Gold King Mine near Silverton, Colorado.

Among the documents is a June 2014 work order for a planned cleanup that noted that the old mine had not been accessible since 1995, when the entrance partially collapsed. The plan appears to have been produced by Environmental Restoration, a private contractor working for EPA.

This is just a small example of D.C. hypocrisy.
