As the saying goes, elections have consequences. Even though the narcissist-in-chief won the
popular vote by a slim margin, Obama believes he has a mandate. Well,
if that’s the case, North Carolina has an overwhelming mandate to oppose his
policies and particularly Obamacare.
The ball began to roll in 2010. The Republicans for the first time won both
chambers of the state legislature since 1870.
This past election the Democrats lost another nine seats in the House
and one in the Senate giving the Republicans a veto proof majority. But it doesn’t stop there. The governorship was also picked up by the GOP. We are currently awaiting the concession of
the Democratic challenger for lieutenant governor.
As for the state congressional delegation, the
Republicans picked up another 3 House seats, giving them a nine to four
advantage. Now that is a mandate.
Obama and his HHS commandant need the cooperation of
the States to implement Obamacare.
“There are some fairly complicated things that have to be built from scratch,” said Delia, adding that there have been some “very, very preliminary” talks with other states about working together to split costs.
The U.S. Supreme Court made it optional, leaving many states unsure as to whether they’ll participate.
The federal government will only fully finance expansion costs for the first three years, and state taxpayers would be expected to cover some costs after that. That issue will likely be part of state budget discussions.
Republican legislators, who control the General Assembly, have generally been against the new health care law, but final decisions haven’t been made on the expansion or on other issues surrounding the law’s implementation.
I believe this past election is a mandate. And the Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly are required to oppose Obamacare.
