Michigan state legislators passed a bill that allowed
citizens to carry concealed guns on school property. Unfortunately, Governor Snyder vetoed it. Here's what the American Federation of
Teachers had to say about public servants having the ability to protect
themselves and their students from a possible massacre:
“Firearms have absolutely no place in our
schools—the Dec. 14, 2012, tragic massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in
Newtown, Conn., is a chilling and heartbreaking reminder of this,”wrote Randi
Weingarten, president of AFT, and AFT Michigan president David Hecker in a
letter to Gov. Rick Snyder, R-Mich.“Permitting firearms in schools—visible or concealed—enables a dangerous set of circumstances that can result in similar tragic outcomes,” Weingarten and Hecker added in calling for Snyder to veto the legislation. “We should be doing everything we can to reduce the possibility of any gunfire in schools, and concentrate on ways to keep all guns off school property and ensure the safety of children and school employees.”
This is the kind of logic that
gets people killed. Here are two recent
incidents that prove an armed citizenry actually saves lives:
A gunman retreated from
a Casper nail salon last week after realizing one of its customers was packing
heat.
Police say about 5:30
p.m. on Dec. 3, a man walked into Modern Nails at 2645 E. Second St. and asked
a female employee if she wanted to buy some diamonds. The man walked toward the
front desk area and the woman replied that she had no money to buy diamonds.
A witness said the man
then reached into his coat pocket and began to take out a silver-colored
pistol.
At that moment, a
woman who was getting her nails done reached into her purse and got her own
firearm. Police say the man never fully raised the gun and left the building
after seeing the customer had her weapon out.
Two people are
hospitalized after a gunman chased terrified restaurant patrons into the lobby
of the Santikos Mayan 14 movie theater during a showing of "The
Hobbit" last night, 1200 WOAI news reprots.
Police detectives
and sheriff's investigators say the incident started in the China Garden
Restaurant on Southwest Military Drive about 9 PM Sunday, when an employee of
the restaurant walked in looking for a woman.
When the woman, who
officials say is also a restaurant employee, wasn't there, the man pulled a gun
and attempted to open fire in the restaurant but his weapon jammed.
"It started at
the restaurant and then went into the parking lot and then into the movie
theater," Deputy Lou Antu told 1200 WOAI news.
Investigators say
some of the terrified restaurant patrons poured into the movie theater, and the
gunman followed.
He opened fire,
shooting one man in the chest, before Antu says an off duty sheriff's deputy
who was working security at the theater shot him once.
"The officer
involved, she took the appropriate action to try to keep everyone safe in the
movie theater," Antu said.
The gunman and the
patron are hospitalized.
Antu says the
gunman never made it into the theater itself, thanks largely to the heroic work
of the off duty deputy.
"She did what
she felt she had to do," Antu said. "I feel that she saved a lot of
lives by taking the action she had to take."
Antu said the
gunman, if he survives, will probably face a charge of attempted capital
murder, for shooting at the San Antonio police car on Southwest Military Drive
as he ran from the restaurant to the theater.
Had
the principal or any teacher at Sandy Hook Elementary had a gun, that evil
bastard wouldn’t have had the balls to enter that school. But let’s not fool ourselves. The gun control lobby and their liberal
confederates aren’t about protecting the population from madmen. Their agenda is much more sinister.
