Charlotte Observer Editorial Writer Wins Know Nothing Award

Progressives are in a state of panic.  Their world view is crumbling before their very eyes as one policy after another is being exposed as a fraud and failure.  Newspaper editors are lashing out in ways that are sad and comical at best. 

Taylor Batten, at the Charlotte Observer, inked an editorial that is amusing and replete with ad hominem attacks on anyone who has the audacity to question his mythical beliefs.  I am no fan of Rep. Robert Pittenger, but I will defend his assertions.  Here is an excerpt from Mr. Batten’s rant:

I’m excited to announce that this month’s winner is U.S. Rep. Robert Pittenger, R-N.C., of Charlotte. Many of you know Robert, as he is a long-time member of our Know Nothing caucus. He earned this month’s citation with his comments last week on WBT radio. I quote them to you now.

 “The mind of the eastern liberals who are educated in these northeastern schools is, you know, government is the most important element. They believe in centralized planning.”

Shortly before that, Pittenger told the station’s listeners: “(President Obama’s) only solution is wealth redistribution and more government programs. He’s tried it, you know, the last six years, the typical, you know, progressive, liberal, socialist – however you want to define it – policies.”

Brother Pittenger sets a fine example for us all. In just a few short sentences, he dismisses an entire region of the country and puts the lie to the idea that those diploma mills like Harvard, Princeton and MIT have been among the world’s leading educational institutions for centuries. You know and I know that Ivy League schools are not rigorous universities preparing young adults in all areas of endeavor, but rather a thinly disguised cabal designed to push centralized planning on America. Thank you, Brother Pittenger, for pointing that out.

This month’s honoree also marvelously articulates for the world what we’ve long believed: That there is no difference between progressive policies and socialist ones. Does anyone still believe that socialism is an economic system in which the government controls the means of production and distribution? Of course not! We encourage all our members to use “progressive” and “socialist” interchangeably, as Brother Pittenger does

I would say the Know Nothing Award goes to Taylor Batten.  Administrative Studies was advocated by Woodrow Wilson, a leading progressive of his time and president of Princeton University.  Wilson wrote extensively about his contempt for the Constitution and our founding principles.  He desired an elite corps of bureaucrats to run “the government” without interference from a “meddlesome” populace.  And what better place to train these pencil pushers than universities?  Besides, don’t most of these D.C. creatures hail from Ivy League schools? 

And yes, we can use progressive and socialism interchangeably, because progressives/socialists are trying to control the means of production and distribution through taxation and regulations.  Maybe Mr. Batten, the head socialist at the Charlotte Observer, should read some of his past editorials.

And of course, what is a libtard without global warming hysteria?  Here is a beauty.  Keep in mind the sarcastic tone in which he writes:

Some of you may have seen the latest fiction being perpetrated by the world’s so-called scientists. NASA scientists, based on readings from 3,000 weather stations around the globe, reported last week that 2014 was the hottest year on record. This is damn inconvenient for us and we must refute it immediately. Our campaign contributors insist.

Toward that end, some of our members have already helpfully pointed out that while 2014 may have been hot as blazes, it was only a tiny bit hotter than 2010, an amount within the margin of error. It’s true that the underlying scientific report made that clear, but the NASA press release didn’t, which gives us an opening. Most importantly, Margin-Of-Error-Gate helpfully distracts from the other inconvenient finding by the world’s leading scientists: that the three hottest years on record are 2005, 2010 and 2014

The hottest on record you say?  And it’s based on 3,000 weather stations around the world?  And when were these datasets operable?  Did you say the LATE 1970’S!  Of course you didn’t, Mr. Batten.  That would require honesty.  It would probably be helpful if you told the reader that these 3,000 weather stations aren’t distributed evenly across the planet, too.

And of course, Mr. Batten forgot to include that an array of scientist are claiming NASA/NOAA misled, deceived, and outright lied about 2014 being the hottest year on record.  Also, he left out the fact that satellites have recorded an 18 year global pause in temperature. 

So what are we to believe?  I know who I don’t believe: Taylor Batten, Charlotte Observer’s editorial page editor.

News and Observer Puts on a Blue Dress for Obama

The progressive puppy mills in North Carolina, also known as mainstream newspapers, are so desperate to report good news for the Obama administration that they will outright lie to the public.  Case in point is The News and Observer out of Raleigh.  They believe we are in a recovery.  And what could possibly lead them down this primrose path?  Here is an excerpt:

President Barack Obama’s political opponents doubtless won’t take “yes” for an answer or acknowledge that his stewardship of the economy has been on track, but the June job figures are promising indeed. Some 288,000 jobs were added last month, and the nation’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 percent.

The stock market shot up at the news, appropriately so.

And then came the White House budget office estimate that the 2014 federal deficit will drop to $583 billion this year, the lowest level since the president took office. The estimate was $66 billion less than the administration predicted earlier this year.

No one person or event stands above others as the reason for this significant step forward in the economic comeback since Obama took office in January 2009. And the president’s chronic critics would say it all would have happened anyway in the natural course of post-recession economics.

Anyone who has done their homework knows the job participation rate is the lowest it’s been since 1978.  288,000 jobs is a drop in the bucket. We just had the 17^th worst quarter in American history with -2.9% collapse in GDP. 

 The News and Disturber then applauds federal deficit figures provided by the White House.  The Obama administration lied about last year’s figures.  Zero Hedge puts things in perspective:

Despite the Obama administration touting a budget deficit of “only” $680 billion in 2013, the GAO’s more accurate accounting shows a total government cost of $3.8 trillion on total revenue of $2.8 trillion.

In other words– the administration wasn’t exactly honest with the American people– the deficit was more like $1 trillion, not $680 billion. But it gets worse.

The GAO added up ALL the US government’s assets in 2013. Aircraft carriers. The highway system. Land. Cash and financial assets. The total is $2.97 trillion.

The liabilities, on the other hand, total $19.88 trillion. This includes the official public debt, plus all sorts of IOUs and loan guarantees.

This means the net EQUITY of the US government is minus $16.9 trillion.

Moreover, the US government’s cash position is a mere $206 billion… roughly 1.1% of its public debt. This isn’t enough to cover net interest payments for the next year.

The Obama administration has a tendency to lie about their numbers.  You’d think the News and Observer would take that into consideration.  But the editors at this rag have their own version of cigars, pizza and a blue dress.

 And what about the stock market?  Anyone with a radio and a television can tell you many people are apprehensive about what is happening.  Many believe we are in a bubble.  It is just a matter of when it pops.

I won’t even bother addressing the News and Observer's assertions about the success of Obamacare.  Many of us are living that nightmare.  If it were fully implemented, the plebeians would storm Washington D.C. with torches and pitchforks.  Maybe the cheerleaders at this rag would see an angry mob at their fortress as well.

Ex-Cons Call Journal-News Editors Insane, Asinine and Stupid

No one can accuse a liberal of common sense.  We witness their stupidity every day.  But the editors at the Journal-News went beyond the pale when they published the names and addresses of licensed gun owners.  Even ex-cons couldn’t believe it.  Fox News reports:

Reformed crooks say the New York newspaper that published a map of names and addresses of gun owners did a great service – to their old cronies in the burglary trade.

The information published online by the Journal-News, a daily paper serving the New York suburbs of Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties, could be highly useful to thieves in two ways, former burglars told FoxNews.com. Crooks looking to avoid getting shot now know which targets are soft and those who need weapons know where they can steal them

“That was the most asinine article I’ve ever seen,” said Walter T. Shaw, 65, a former burglar and jewel thief who the FBI blames for more than 3,000 break-ins that netted some $70 million in the 1960s and 1970s. “Having a list of who has a gun is like gold - why rob that house when you can hit the one next door, where there are no guns?

"What they did was insanity," added Shaw, author of "License to Steal," a book about his criminal career

And it goes on:

“They just created an opportunity for some crimes to be committed and I think it’s exceptionally stupid,” said Bob Portenier, 65, a former burglar and armed house robber turned crime prevention consultant.

Professional burglars are always looking for an edge, and like most folks, they read the paper, said Portenier.

“Criminals are always looking for opportunity and words travels through the grapevine—burglars trade secrets and when you see something like that in the paper, that’s is something burglar’s are going to talk about,” Portenier said. “‘Did you see in the paper where all these people have guns and their addresses?’ and that kind of stuff, they’ll say.”

While some burglars may use the newspaper’s information to avoid guns, Portenier said others will target homes with guns. The newspaper’s decision could even lead to legally-owned guns proliferating on the street, he said.

“That’s one of the first things we’d check out—guns are on the top of the list of what you want to steal,” he said. “They can walk out with a shotgun and a couple of handguns and sell them on the street for $300 or $400 a pop. They can sell them to a gangbanger who ends up killing someone."

Frank Abagnale, who was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2002 film “Catch Me if You Can,” and is perhaps the most famous reformed thief to ever earn a legitimate living by offering the public insight into the criminal mind, called the newspaper’s actions “reprehensible.”

“It is unbelievable that a newspaper or so called journalist would publish the names and addresses of legal gun owners, including federal agents, law enforcement officers and the like,” said Abagnale, who noted that he grew up in the suburban New York area served by the Journal-News. “This would be equivalent to publishing the names of individuals who keep substantial sums of money, jewelry and valuables in their home.”

So-called journalist is right.  The activists at the Journal-News have endangered the lives of law abiding citizens.  We can expect a major lawsuit if anyone gets robbed or hurt because of these editors.  This paper will become extinct.
