Obama's Green Energy "Bain" Failures
Obama and his minions would have everyone believe that Bain Capital is the Achilles heel of Mitt Romney. But what these statist bastards overlook is the failed green energy “investments” of Obama’s DOE. They are the "bane" of his administration.

Joe Biden is All About Giving a Fair Shot and Shake to Obama's Campaign Bundlers
Sometimes you just have to laugh at these buffoons in the Obama administration. Joe Biden made the following statement at a campaign rally in Ohio. His audience was the UAW.
"Simply stated, we're about promoting the private sector," Biden said. "They're about protecting the privileged sector. We are for a fair shot and a fair shake; they're about no rules, no risks and no accountability."
Specifically calling out Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, Biden said, "If you give any one of these guys the keys to the White House, they will bankrupt the middle class again."
Hey Joe, does promoting the private sector include all of your buddies who received federal government grants and guaranteed loans? You know the ones I’m talking about: The campaign bundlers who financed Obama’s campaign in 2008 and will again in 2012. How about the life-long Democratic operatives who received special Department of Energy dispensations like Robert Kennedy Jr. and Al Gore? Couldn’t we classify these people as your privileged sector?
My God! These people have no shame. If anyone personifies Biden’s no rules, no risks and no accountability maxim, it would be the scoundrels in the Obama administration.

Secretary Chu Feels Our Pain While Gas Prices Soar
How is it that republican candidates like Mitt Romney are considered out of touch with the common folk, when we have people like Barack Obama and his apparatchik Secretary Chu of the Department of Energy wanting to raise the price of gasoline to $8.00 a gallon? I ask who in the hell is the elitist? Here is an exchange between Chu and Congressman Alan Nunnelee:But Americans need relief now, Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) said — not high gasoline prices that could eventually push them to alternatives.
“I can’t look at motivations. I have to look at results. And under this administration the price of gasoline has doubled,” Nunnelee told Chu.
“The people of north Mississippi can’t be here, so I have to be here and be their voice for them,” Nunnelee added. “I have to tell you that $8 a gallon gasoline makes them afraid. It’s a cruel tax on the people of north Mississippi as they try to go back and forth to work. It’s a cloud hanging over economic development and job creation.”
Chu expressed sympathy but said his department is working to lower energy prices in the long term.
“We agree there is great suffering when the price of gasoline increases in the United States, and so we are very concerned about this,” said Chu, speaking to the House Appropriations energy and water subcommittee. “As I have repeatedly said, in the Department of Energy, what we’re trying to do is diversify our energy supply for transportation so that we have cost-effective means.”
It makes all the difference in the world when Democrats feel our pain, while inflicting it. The inquisitor's smile and assurances are more comforting while they turn the crank, and your limbs pop and crack under pressure of the rack.

Climategate Scientist Says Department of Energy Complicit in Cover-Up
Fox News.com has revealed another Climategate outrage. The U.S. Department of Energy might be complicit in hiding research data from global warming skeptics. More e-mails have been made public, casting more sunshine on the antics of global warming proselytizers.Making that case in 2009, the then-head of the Research Unit, Dr. Phil Jones, told colleagues repeatedly that the U.S. Department of Energy was funding his data collection -- and that officials there agreed that he should not have to release the data.
“Work on the land station data has been funded by the U.S. Dept of Energy, and I have their agreement that the data needn’t be passed on. I got this [agreement] in 2007,” Jones wrote in a May 13, 2009, email to British officials, before listing reasons he did not want them to release data.
Two months later, Jones reiterated that sentiment to colleagues, saying that the data "has to be well hidden. I’ve discussed this with the main funder (U.S. Dept of Energy) in the past and they are happy about not releasing the original station data.”
A third email from Jones written in 2007 echoes the idea: "They are happy with me not passing on the station data," he wrote.
The emails have outraged climate-change skeptics who say they can't trust climate studies unless they see the raw data -- and how it has been adjusted.
"In every endeavor of science, making your work replicable by others is a basic tenet of proof,” Anthony Watts, a meteorologist and climate change blogger, told FoxNews.com. “If other scientists cannot replicate your work, it brings your work into question.”
Is the Department of Energy to blame? The Climategate emails reveal correspondence only between Jones and his colleagues -- not between him and the DoE.
"What’s missing," Watts said, "is a ... directive from DoE that they should withhold station data gathered under their grant. The email may be there, but ... still under lock and key.
If the allegations against the Department of Energy are true, then it’s time to abolish this rogue agency. There are only so many scandals one government bureaucracy should be allowed to commit.

Another Obama Green Baron gets a DOE Guaranteed Loan

Another one of Obama’s Green Barons received a Department of Energy guaranteed loan. And of course the latest offender just happened to be a campaign bundler for the Anointed One.
The Sunlight Foundation notes that Bohemian Companies, which was founded by billionaire and Obama bundler Pat Stryker, participated with other companies in the "second institutional equity round of financing" in 2008 for Abound Solar, which recieved $104 million total through that round of financing.
Stryker gave $50,000 to Obama's inauguration, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, and raised a further $87,000 for the inauguration. Stryker has since donated $35,800 to the 2012 Obama Victory Fund, Sunlight reports.

One year after Bohemian invested in Abound, and a year before the DOE granted a loan guarantee, Stryker visited the White House. "The White House did not confirm that the visitor was the Pat Stryker in question and did not provide details about the meeting," Sunlight says.
This green energy debacle has more layers than an onion. I wonder if we’ll ever get to the bottom of this stench.

Obama's Green Barons Shame 19th Century Robber Barons

Obama’s Green Barons make the Robber Barons of the 19th century look like a bunch of pikers. First of all, the derogatory term “Robber Baron” was used to portray early American capitalist as a bunch of heartless thieves exploiting the American people as if they were nothing but mere chattel. That kind of depiction is overall, historically inaccurate and has been a recurring anthem from the anti-capitalist and anti-corporatist to this day.
Author Thomas J. DiLorenzo writes:It is a staple of history books to attach this derogatory phrase to such figures as John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and the great nineteenth-century railroad operators — Grenville Dodge, Leland Stanford, Henry Villard, James J. Hill, and others. To most historians writing on this period, these entrepreneurs committed thinly veiled acts of larceny to enrich themselves at the expense of their customers. Once again we see the image of the greedy, exploitative capitalist, but in many cases this is a distortion of the truth.
As common as it is to speak of "robber barons," most who use that term are confused about the role of capitalism in the American economy and fail to make an important distinction — the distinction between what might be called a market entrepreneur and a political entrepreneur. A pure market entrepreneur, or capitalist, succeeds financially by selling a newer, better, or less expensive product on the free market without any government subsidies, direct or indirect. The key to his success as a capitalist is his ability to please the consumer, for in a capitalist society the consumer ultimately calls the economic shots. By contrast, a political entrepreneur succeeds primarily by influencing government to subsidize his business or industry, or to enact legislation or regulation that harms his competitors.
And there is no doubt that political entrepreneurs infest the Obama administration. The whole renewable energy movement is subsidized by the American taxpayers through DOE guaranteed loans. Many of these companies have filed bankruptcy. The corruption is so severe that analyst state a tsunami of green failures is heading our way. Peter Schweizer’s book, Throw Them All Out goes into detail on how crony capitalism has gone wild at the White House. Big Government.com writes:

The details of how the DOE loan scheme was apparently conducted are almost as shocking as the billions bagged by Obama’s backers.
Instead of appointing a team of scientists or engineers to direct the DOE’s loan program office, Schweizer contends, the Obama administration placed some of the president’s biggest fundraisers in control. For example, Steve Spinner, who served on the Obama campaign’s National Finance Committee and was himself a top bundler, was tapped as the “chief strategic operations officer” for the DOE’s loan programs. Spinner was joined at DOE by another Obama fundraiser, Sanjay Wagle, and by Democrat donor Jonathan Silver, who would serve as executive director of the program.
With the scientists and engineers effectively out of the way, and the President’s top backers at the levers of the DOE’s loan program, the Obama administration was able to funnel billions of taxpayer dollars back to green energy companies associated with the President’s political and financial patrons.
For members of Obama’s national finance committee, the returns on investing in Obama’s 2008 campaign were incredibly lucrative, according to Schweizer. For every dollar committee members raised, they received $24,783 in return in the form of DOE sweetheart loans, on average.

Future historians will say that the Obama administration is the most corrupt in American history and that his Green Barons shamefully exploited the United States treasury. Let’s just hope that is the only footprint that this president leaves.

Department of Energy Bails Out the Kennedy Green Baron

Where would a government boondoggle be without a Kennedy? The Department of Energy adds Camelot to its menu of corruption; and Teddy’s favorite item (a waitress sandwich) isn’t even listed. No, this time Robert Kennedy Jr. steps up to the plate and gorges himself on $1.4 billion of taxpayer money.
Peter Schweizer’s new book Throw Them Out details this and a myriad of other D.C. scandals. Big Government.com writes the following:
The details of how BrightSource managed to land its ten-figure taxpayer bailout have yet to emerge fully. However, one clue might be found in the person of Sanjay Wagle.
Wagle was one of the principals in Kennedy’s firm who raised money for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. When Obama won the White House, Wagle was installed at the Department of Energy (DOE), advising on energy grants.
From an objective vantage point, investing taxpayer monies in BrightSource was a risky proposition at the time. In 2010, BrightSource, whose largest shareholder is Kennedy’s VantagePoint Partners, was up to its eyes in $1.8 billion of debt obligations and had lost $71.6 million on its paltry $13.5 million of revenue.
Even before BrightSource rattled its tin cup in front of Obama’s DOE, the company made it known publicly that its survival hinged on successfully completing the Ivanpah Solar Electrical System, which would become the largest solar plant in the world, on federal lands in California.
In its Securities and Exchange Commission filings, BrightSource further underscored the risky nature of the Ivanpah venture and, more broadly, the company’s viability:
Our future success depends on our ability to construct Ivanpah, our first utility-scale solar thermal power project, in a cost-effective and timely manner… Our ability to complete Ivanpah and the planning, development and construction of all three phases are subject to significant risk and uncertainty.

But what is certain, if you have the right connections at the Department of Energy, you can get a taxpayer funded guaranteed loan.

Should Democrats Pay a Windfall Tax on Their Ill-Gotten Gains

Democrats have been screwing the American taxpayers over for years. What was once backroom graft is now openly flouted without shame. Government agencies are the vehicle that the top 1% of political grifters uses to steal the bread others have labored to make.
It’s no secret that Democratic Party operatives have been getting sweetheart deals. The Department of Energy has been outed. Bundlers for Barack Obama and his Chicago political machine were granted guaranteed loans for suspect green energy schemes. Even the life-long leech, James Johnson formerly of Fannie Mae, couldn’t pass up the latest scam:
An investment firm whose vice chairman has been an adviser and fundraiser for President Obama saw one of its portfolio companies win approval this year for $50 million in loans from the administration’s clean-energy loan program.
Washington-based Perseus says its affiliation with James A. Johnson, a major fundraiser for Obama’s campaign, played no role in persuading the Energy Department to award the loan to Vehicle Production Group, a Miami start-up that is manufacturing wheelchair-accessible cars and taxis.
Johnson headed Obama’s vice presidential selection committee in 2008 and is the former chairman of housing mortgage giant Fannie Mae. He was listed as a campaign fundraising bundler for Obama in the 2008 race, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, and committed to raising $200,000 to $500,000 for the upcoming presidential race.
Johnson could not be reached for comment Thursday. Perseus Chairman Frank Pearl said in an interview that it is an “absurd idea” to think that Johnson’s political connections helped the Miami company.
“I doubt there was anybody at DOE that even considered the fact that Jim was part of this firm. We went straight through the proper channels of the [loan] program,” he said
Department spokesman Damien LaVera said in a statement Thursday that “the decision to provide the Vehicle Production Group a loan was made based on the merits after more than two years of review by officials in the DOE loan program.”
So James Johnson’s connections to the Obama administration and other Democratic political operatives had no influence on this loan? HOGWASH!!
And let’s not forget all that Stimulus money that went to the unions and was laundered back to the Democratic Party.
It’s about time the Democrats pay the American people back for their ill-gotten gains. I believe a Windfall Tax should be levied on this band of grifters. Besides, don’t we all want social justice?

Department of Energy Grants a Finnish Car Manufacturer a Taxpayer Funded Guarantee Loan
The Department of Energy has been busy screwing the taxpayers over these past few years. Now, it has been revealed that this rogue agency gave a $529 million guaranteed loan to a Finnish electric car manufacturer.Fisker was supposed to build its Karma cars here in the United States, but ran into a little problem:
"Fisker is using this funding to bring a shuttered General Motors plant in Delaware back to life and employing more than 2,500 workers. Fisker was attracted to this site in part by the opportunity to rehire some of the trained, dedicated workers who lost their jobs when that plant closed," Leistikow said. The department later clarified that 120 workers have been hired at the site to date, with the rest set to be hired by early 2013.
For the Karma line, founder Henrik Fisker reportedly claimed the company could not find a manufacturer in the U.S. for the job. So the production went to Finnish company Valmet Automotive, along with 500 manufacturing jobs.
A company spokesman told FoxNews.com that Fisker had "explored the possibility of producing the Karma in the U.S."
"However, there are no contract manufacturers like Valmet in the U.S., and none of the established domestic automakers were willing to partner with Fisker to provide an manufacturing option in the U.S. that would work for the Karma program," the spokesman said.
Delaware you say? Why Delaware? I wonder…
And behind every green energy boondoggle there is a Democratic Party operative reaping in a taxpayer paid windfall. Who could it be this time?
The ABC News report noted the political connections enjoyed by Fisker and another company, Tesla Motors, which together received about $1 billion in loans. Fisker reportedly is backed by a firm that counts ex-Vice President Al Gore among its partners. The article said just 40 of Fisker's Karma cars have been produced so far, and that Tesla is consistently losing money.
The World Economic Forum ranked Finland the fourth most competitive country in the world, just above the United States who came in at fifth. Let’s give the Obama administration a hand. It’s not every day that a president sees the fruition of his policies. Maybe the Anointed One can become president of Finland. I just hope that Finland vets there candidates eligibility better than we did.

SunPower Takes the Money and Runs

Another green energy company was granted a guaranteed loan by the Department of Energy. SunPower could be a bigger scandal than Solyndra. This time the green energy grifters took the money and ran south of the border:
American module and system manufacturer SunPower has announced that it will open a new plant in Mexico. It will produce the SunPower E18, E19 and E20 modules and the SunPower T5 Solar Roof Tile system.
The plant will be located in Mexicali, close to the U.S. border and inland from the border city of Tijuana. An existing 320,000 square foot building will be leased by SunPower for the facility.
"Establishing our own manufacturing facility in Mexicali means we will be positioned to quickly deliver our high-efficiency, high-reliability solar products to a growing North American solar market," SunPower's CEO Marty Neese said when announcing the new plant.
A pattern has developed among these green energy companies: if you are politically connected you can get taxpayer cash. SunPower is no exception:
The company is also politically connected. Rep. George Miller's son is SunPower's top lobbyist. The elder Miller, a powerful California Democrat, toured the plant last October with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, and reportedly said, "We've worked hard to make renewable energy a priority because it represents America's future economic growth. Today, businesses like SunPower are moving forward, hiring 200 people for good clean energy jobs in the Easy Bay."
It’s not clear what role, if any, either of them played in securing the loan. Miller’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
An Energy Department official denied crony capitalism was a factor in the loan guarantee.
“The notion that political connections played any role in this application is simply false,” the official said. “This application was approved based on the exhaustive due diligence of the career professionals in the loan program, and nothing else.”
And it was the same career bureaucrats that have been giving away taxpayer largess to companies like Solyndra

Another Department of Energy Boondoggle Exposed
We can’t go a day without another green energy boondoggle being exposed. This time the spotlight falls upon the National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, Colorado:According to the Denver Post, the lab plans to eliminate between 100 and 150 of its 1,350 jobs. The Obama administration supported the NREL in 2009 with roughly $200 million in stimulus grants. Energy Secretary Stephen Chu visited Golden in May 2009 to promote the NREL as a beneficiary of those funds.
At the time, the Associated Press reported that the stimulus grants included $68 million to build a demonstration model of an energy-efficient office building; $19.2 million for solar, geothermal and fuel cell equipment; $10 million for testing and evaluation of wind technology; and $45 million to research and test drive-train systems for wind turbines.
NREL spokesman Bob Noun blames Congress for the organization’s failures. The Denver Post reports that he believes the gridlocked U.S. Congress forced the NREL to find $8 million in new budgetary savings
Well thanks for saving $8 million. If it hadn’t been for the dried up taxpayer teat, I’m sure these vultures would’ve squandered that money too. But I want to take note of the arrogance and the entitlement mentality of this guy. Since Obama and the Democrats took over Washington D.C. the NLRB’s budget went on steroids:
“Their funding for 2008 was $328 million,” Oliver said in a phone interview. “In 2010 it was $536.5 million. They’ve had a 64 percent increase in their funding during the Obama administration.”
Exactly how big is the Department of Energy’s Budget? I don’t believe I’ve ever witnessed one government agency waste so much money. It’s time to disband the DOE.

Department of Energy's Billion Dollar Babies

The Department of Energy is at it again. They just approved another billion dollar boondoggle to shady green energy companies:
Update: The Energy Department on Wednesday approved federal loan guarantees for two green energy projects totaling more than $1 billion. It approved $337 million for a Mesquite Solar project in Arizona and $737 million for a Solar Reserve project in Nevada. The projects would create a total of 52-55 permanent jobs, according to earlier DOE figures and company statements. That's about $20 million per permanent job.
$20 million per job! This is an outrage. The DOE throws money around as if it grows on trees. They obviously have no regard for taxpayer largess. After all, they didn’t work for that money.
And here is a tribute to those billion dollar babies. Soon to be trillion dollar babies:

Solyndra: A Case Study of Doomed Crony Socialist Venturism

Crony capitalism is alive and well in the Obama administration. For all of you Marxist out there who clapped and cheered for the worker utopian paradise promised by the Anointed One’s rhetorical mastery; guess what? You’ve been duped.
The hottest scandal is not the Fast and Furious program that also plagues this 2nd amendment hating regime. No, that can be forgiven by the socialist who support Obama. What cannot be forgiven is his hypocrisy on corporatism. And Solyndra is the fish tail slapping the face of all the capitalist hating ideologues in the Democratic Party.
Solyndra not only screwed the taxpayers out of a half billion dollars in Department of Energy guaranteed loans; it has come to alight that an additional $469 million was also promised by the DOE in an SEC filing by this bankrupt company:
A close look by LA Observed at the company's SEC filings shows that it also was seeking additional DOE loan guarantees of $469 million for Phase II of its so-called Fab 2 solar power manufacturing facility in Fremont. And, get this, DOE - according to Solyndra's Dec. 18, 2009 application for SEC approval to sell common stock - tentatively gave this 2nd loan application its approval. Here's the story right from Solyndra's own S-1:
"On September 11, 2009, we submitted Part 1 of an application for an approximately $469 million guaranteed loan to be utilized to finance the construction of Phase II. As with the financing facility for Phase I, the loan would be made by the Federal Financing Bank and guaranteed by the DOE. On November 4, 2009, we were notified by the DOE that our Part 1 application was complete and that Phase II was determined to be a Section 1703 eligible project and to have the credit subsidy cost for the project paid out of funds allocated under Section 1705. We submitted Part 2 of our loan guarantee application on November 17, 2009."
Solyndra is the gift that keeps on giving. Can you imagine how many other socialist venture programs that have been doomed to failure? And all at the expense of taxpayers.

EPA Scams Taxpayers with Justice Grants

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy have degenerated into conduits that promote the progressive agenda. An agenda that is hostile to liberty and free market principles. And as usual, Liberals fund their nefarious activities with guaranteed loans and grants disguised in benign code words like environmental justice:
Many of these justice grants, however, have been issued through Environmental Justice Small Grants Program, which started in 1994 and has awarded more than $21 million in funding to 1,200 local organizations for environmental justice. In 2010, the Obama administration distributed $1.9 million, more than another year in over a decade.
At the beginning of this year, the EPA awarded another $7 million to “scientists around the country,” as part of the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) research grants program, to study how pollution affects “poor and underserved communities.” (RELATED: Obama administration marches forward with green agenda despite Solyndra scandal)
“EPA made a public commitment in 2010 to take action to address contributors to disproportionate environmental health impacts,” said Dr. Paul Anastas, assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Research and Development in a statement. “This research could pave the way for more interdisciplinary work that is responsive to community concerns and environmental justice.”
In August, the EPA awarded $6.2 million to low-income neighborhoods in national environmental workforce development and job training grants “to recruit, train, and place unemployed, predominantly low-income residents in polluted areas.”
“We’re looking to the people and community organizations who know these areas best to find the places where green jobs and environmental protection are going to do the most good,” said Jackson in a statement. “Creating good green jobs proves that we don’t have to choose between cleaning up our air and our water or creating jobs in our communities. We’re showing that it’s possible to do both at the same time.”
I wonder what kind of community organizations are being employed to promote this particular brand of justice? Could it be a group like ACORN or one of its bastards? This is nothing but a scam.

DOE Grifters Flee Obama's Green Ship
As the new Republican majority take over House committees, the Marxist rats flee Obama’s green energy ship:
A trio of top officials, including acting Undersecretary of Energy Cathy Zoi, are stepping down from the Department of Energy, Secretary Steven Chu announced in an agency memo set to be released today.
Zoi, who also serves as assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy (EERE), will be leaving the agency on March 10 to head to a private-sector post in California. In addition, Chu's chief of staff, Rod O'Connor, will leave the agency on March 18 for a job at a sports and entertainment company based in London. General counsel Scott Harris has also announced that he will soon be leaving DOE.
The loss of Zoi comes at a time when DOE is being asked by President Obama to make major new investments in clean energy technology.
Since being confirmed by the Senate in 2009, Zoi has managed the agency's applied science, research, development and deployment portfolio and also oversaw $30 billion in funding DOE received under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
These grifters do not want to sit before a committee and explain how they wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on one of the biggest scams in American history. You can expect more of these rodents to bail on the anointed one. No one can defend the indefensible.
