Rep. Larry Kissell Receives Dirty Money from Rangel

According to the Washington Examiner, Rep. Larry Kissell accepted campaign contributions from disgraced Democrat Charlie Rangel of New York, who was reprimanded by the House:

WHO: Rep. Larry Kissell, D-N.C.

WHAT: Kissell received $10,000 from Rep. Charles Rangel's National Leadership PAC, the political action committee of the powerful New York Democrat who is chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee that writes tax law.

WHY IT'S DIRTY: Rangel is being investigated on multiple issues by the House Ethics Committee, including failure to report income from properties he owns in New York and the Dominican Republic. A company that gave $1 million to a New York school facility that will bear Rangel's name subsequently received lucrative tax breaks, and he has reportedly solicited political contributions on official stationery.

WILL KISSELL GIVE IT BACK? Kissell did not respond to The Examiner's request for comment.

THE SCORE:

Number of Democrats who have given it back: 0

Number of Republicans who have given it back: 0

DONATED THIS OR OTHER DIRTY MONEY WATCH-HIGHLIGHTED CONTRIBUTIONS TO CHARITY: Rep. Steve Israel, D-N.Y., Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, Rep. Allyson Schwartz, D-Pa., Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo., Rep. David Price, D-N.C.

Congressman John Hall: A Product of our Educational System

Democrats are in denial as to why they had their asses handed to them this past election. Rep. John Hall is a perfect example, demonstrated in a recent interview:

In a wide-ranging interview before he prepares to leave the House of Representatives, Hudson Valley Congressman John Hall warned that the nation could quickly descend into Fascism if more is not done to curb the influence of corporate money in politics.

Speaking about the Citizen's United decision, which allowed unregulated flow of cash into campaign coffers, Hall said, "I learned when I was in social studies class in school that corporate ownership or corporate control of government is called Fascism. So that's really the question— is that the destination if this court decision goes unchecked?"

Hall said that the flow of corporate dollars is why he and the Democrats lost control of Congress.

Well, Mr. Hall just gave a testament as to how dysfunctional our educational system is. Not only did he get fascism completely backwards; he doesn’t understand the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech…

Congress violated the First Amendment under McCain/Feingold. If you really wanted to get the influence of corporate money out of politics; you can start by repealing the Seventeenth Amendment. But Mr. Hall doesn’t have a basic understanding of the freedom of speech. I seriously doubt he would understand the principles our founding fathers had on the electoral process of senators.

Mr. Hall reminds me of what F.A. Hayek warned in his book The Road to Serfdom; that words would be hijacked and history will be distorted by the left:

FOREWARD TO THE 1956 AMERICAN PAPERBACK EDITION:

The fact that this book was originally written with only the British public in mind does not appear to have seriously affected its intelligibility for the American reader. But there is one point of phraseology which I ought to explain here to forestall any misunderstanding. I use throughout the term “liberal” in the original, nineteenth-century sense in which it is still current in Britain. In current American usage it often means very nearly the opposite of this. It has been part of the camouflage of leftish movements in this country, helped by the muddleheadedness of many who really believe in liberty, that “liberal” has come to mean the advocacy of almost every kind of government control. I am still puzzled why those in the United States who truly believe in liberty should not only have allowed the left to appropriate this almost indispensible term but should even have assisted by beginning to use it themselves as a term of opprobrium. This seems to be particularly regrettable because of the consequent tendency of many true liberals to describe themselves as conservatives.

He also wrote:

If one has not one’s self experienced this process, it is difficult to appreciate the magnitude of this change of the meaning of words, the confusion which it causes, and the barriers to any rational discussion which it creates. It has to be seen to be understood how, if one of two brothers embraces the new faith, after a short while he appears to speak a different language which makes any real communication between them impossible. And the confusion becomes worse because this change of meaning of the words describing political ideals is not a single event but a continuous process, a technique employed consciously or unconsciously to direct the people. Gradually, as this process continues, the whole language becomes despoiled, and words become empty shells deprived of any definite meaning, as capable of denoting one thing as its opposite and used solely for the emotional associations which still adhere to them.

This technique is currently being employed by the Global Warming crowd. I hope the leftist aren’t as successful distorting the phraseology of that hoax as they were with fascism and liberalism.

R. Lee Ermey: Get the Hell Off My Obstacle Course Obama

R. Lee Ermey isn't afraid to speak his mind.  He is not a fan of the Obama Administration.  As a matter of fact I believe he would have told the anointed one to get the hell off of his obstacle course:

Central Banking and The Wizard of Oz

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched the Wizard of Oz; it is too numerous to calculate. I thought it was just some fanciful story for children; that was until I read Hamilton’s Curse by Thomas J. Dilorenzo. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, but I was dumbstruck by the hypotheses that the Wizard of Oz was actually about the dangers of centralized banking.

Mr. Dilorenzo is not the only one who has made this analogy, as he states in his book:

Your author is not the first to note the similarity between central bankers and the Wizard of Oz. L. Frank Baum’s book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, on which the famous movie was based, was a commentary on the growing monetary problems of the late nineteenth century that were created by centralized banking. As the economists Mark Thornton and Robert B. Ekelund explain:

The Emerald (green) City is Washington and the Wizard of Oz (ounce of gold) is the president, who manipulates the population on behalf of the big-city banks. The Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Munchkins represent different groups of people while the Cowardly Lion represents William Jennings Bryan [an opponent of the gold standard] and Dorothy stands for “everyman,” the average, good natured citizen, who does not have a clue about the underlying causes of the problems of society. The Yellow Brick Road is the gold standard…Baum’s story parallels the American banking system where the government and big banks controlled the economy in support of the industrial and financial interests in the East to the detriment of farmers, labor, and rural America, especially in the South and West.

Baum’s book was written after only three decades of nationalized banking; the creation of the Fed in 1913 produced a system even more centralized than the one the Lincoln administration had recreated.

Well, what do you know? I will never be able to watch that movie again without thinking of Ben Bernanke pulling the levers behind the curtain.

Senator Burr Votes to Gay Up the Military

Senator Burr sent a shockwave throughout North Carolina. He was one of eight Republicans who voted to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell”, effectively legalizing homosexuality in the armed forces.

I like many others were blindsided by Burr’s vote, and many conservatives are not happy with his decision. Mecklenburg County Commissioner, Jennifer Roberts (D) wanted to send a thank you letter on behalf of the board, but GOP members stated that she doesn’t speak for them. Bill James was the most outspoken of all of them:

"I think there are a lot of things that people of all political stripes tolerate from their politicians," James said. "But endorsing immorality and allowing military recruits to be preyed on by homosexuals is not one that I will tolerate."

Sen. Richard Burr was just re-elected and will not have to worry about the consequences of his votes until 2016. He like all senators is super-legislators and they don’t have to worry about the thoughts of their constituents until election time. He and Kay Hagan can piss down our backs all day without any consequence. That is why we need to repeal the Seventeenth Amendment. When senators vote against the interest of their state and constituents, we can have a mechanism to recall them. Until that time comes, we can expect more dumbass legislation such as this.

South Carolina Picks Up Congressional Seat

South Carolina is to pick up a congressional seat. That will make seven for the palmetto state. The population grew by 4.6 million residents at a rate of 15.3 percent since the last census. The following counties have seen the most growth:

But Republicans already have an eye on population estimates that show South Carolina's growth has been heaviest in four counties: York, just south of Charlotte, N.C.; and Horry, Beaufort and Charleston along the coast, according to Wesley Donehue, political director for the state Senate GOP caucus.

Notice that York County is the beneficiary of a population explosion. Could it possibly be due to the high taxes of Mecklenburg County and North Carolina in general? Just making an observation. Whatever the reason, it was enough to change the demographics and rid the 5th district of Rep. John Spratt who had become a fixture on the Potomac. Maybe if he had done his job and passed a budget, he would still be in office. But, then again his voting record was pathetically “San Francisco”.

The additional seat should become republican, with of course the consent of the Justice Department. South Carolina can’t have self-determination because it’s deemed a racist state and supposedly will violate the voting rights of black people:

The U.S. Justice Department will have to approve the state's reapportionment and Republicans said they predict the department will push for a second district that, like Clyburn's, has a majority of African-Americans.

Of course no one can act these days without the federal government breathing down our necks. Chances are they will draw a district that is a bastardization like North Carolina’s 12th District held by neo-Marxist Mel Watt.

Mr. Watt used to be my representative, until they gerrymandered him out of my area.

I’m sure the Democrats will find a way to ensure that Rep. James Clyburn is not the only jackass from South Carolina. They are pretty good at braying until they get their way.

Obama's Hydra Monster Bureaucracy

What legislation the infamous 111th Congress couldn’t pass, the imperial presidency of Barack Obama will do through the Marxist – Hydra monster that is the federal bureaucracy. The FCC has stated they will regulate the internet without the consent of Congress and in defiance of the federal judiciary. Rasmussen conducted a poll, and the American people overwhelmingly are against federal intervention:

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 21% of Likely U.S. Voters want the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to regulate the Internet as it does radio and television. Fifty-four percent (54%) are opposed to such regulation, and 25% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey was conducted shortly after the FCC decided on a party line vote to impose so-called “net neutrality” regulations on the Internet world. Republicans and unaffiliated voters overwhelmingly oppose FCC regulation of the Internet, while Democrats are more evenly divided. Those who use the Internet most are most opposed to FCC regulations.

Now, the EPA has deemed Texas and several other states unfit to regulate their own industries. Notice the list below, almost all of them are red states. Does anyone suspect political retribution?

AUSTIN — The federal Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday effectively declared Texas unfit to regulate its own greenhouse gas emissions and took over carbon dioxide permitting of any new or expanding industrial facilities starting Jan. 2.

The EPA also set up a framework for regulating greenhouse gas emissions in seven other states: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Oregon and Wyoming. In addition, the agency set a timetable on establishing regulated levels of greenhouse gas emissions.

Governor Perry states that the unnecessary restrictions would kill jobs. That doesn’t seem to be a problem for Obama and his Marxist minions. Multinational companies such as Caterpillar, UPS and DuPont are expanding their overseas operations where business is good and far away from the tyranny of federal bureaucrats:

More than half of the 15,000 people that Caterpillar Inc. has hired this year were outside the U.S. UPS is also hiring at a faster clip overseas. For both companies, sales in international markets are growing at least twice as fast as domestically.

The trend helps explain why unemployment remains high in the United States, edging up to 9.8 percent last month, even though companies are performing well: All but 4 percent of the top 500 U.S. corporations reported profits this year, and the stock market is close to its highest point since the 2008 financial meltdown.

But the jobs are going elsewhere. The Economic Policy Institute, a Washington think tank, says American companies have created 1.4 million jobs overseas this year, compared with less than 1 million in the U.S. The additional 1.4 million jobs would have lowered the U.S. unemployment rate to 8.9 percent, says Robert Scott, the institute's senior international economist.

Democrats say they’re all for liberty; just not economic liberty.

Good Riddance 111th Congress

While everyone was preoccupied with the holidays, the 111th Congress was busy bitch slapping Santa and shoving coal in our stockings. Nancy Pelosi and her cadre of confederates once again went on their midnight Christmas ride giving the American people the middle finger as they forced through legislation; this after being thoroughly repudiated last November. I guess there are no consequences to elections when it comes to liberals.

Here are some of the accomplishments of the Democrats and their RINO conspirators during the lame duck session:

Gave more regulatory powers to the FDA

Banned “don’t ask, don’t tell” in effect turning our military into one big San Francisco Gay Pride Parade

Extended the Bush tax cuts for only two years while giving more unemployment benefits to the 99er’s (Let’s call it for what it is: welfare)

Passed through a disadvantageous nuclear treaty

And God only knows what else these sharks did. We are still trying to find out what kind of crap they passed in Obamacare.

The 111th is the most despised congress in American history. They had no regard for the Constitution; and they governed against the will of their constituents. One Democratic strategist is completely delusional:

"Democrats are exultant about the accomplishments of the past two years but depressed by the disconnect we've had with the American voters," said Democratic strategist Steve Murphy. "Everything that has been done in terms of domestic policy was done with the goal of improving the lives of middle-class Americans - and middle-class Americans rose up in revolt of the Democratic Congress."

You bastards improved our lives alright, by burdening us with job killing regulation and insurmountable debt:

(CNSNews.com) - The federal government has accumulated more new debt--$3.22 trillion ($3,220,103,625,307.29)—during the tenure of the 111th Congress than it did during the first 100 Congresses combined, according to official debt figures published by the U.S. Treasury.

That equals $10,429.64 in new debt for each and every one of the 308,745,538 people counted in the United States by the 2010 Census.

The total national debt of $13,858,529,371,601.09 (or $13.859 trillion), as recorded by the U.S. Treasury at the close of business on Dec. 22, now equals $44,886.57 for every man, woman and child in the United States.

In fact, the 111th Congress not only has set the record as the most debt-accumulating Congress in U.S. history, but also has out-stripped its nearest competitor, the 110th, by an astounding $1.262 trillion in new debt.

All I have to say is good riddance 111th Congress. May we never see the likes of you again!

North Carolina Becomes a Megastate

North Carolina according to the 2010 census is now the 10th most populous in the union. The Tar Heel state grew by 1.5 million people since 2000. But it wasn’t enough to take away a congressional seat from Minnesota; the difference was about 15,700 people. North Carolina will continue to have thirteen seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The socialist policies of the progressive north have flushed productive businesses and citizens from their utopian, collective cesspool into the warm embrace of the south. This could be considered one of the greatest migrations in American history; second only to the time of Horace Greeley.

The progressive’s mouths are watering. They see a voting bloc that will transform the very red South into a pinko blue. But the dynamics did not play out in this past election. Democrats have dominated the N.C. General Assembly over the past decade. They had their asses handed to them last November. It will be the first time Republicans had control of the House since 1999 and the Senate since 1898.

Maybe there is some hope for our northern transplants, and that they’re cognizant of the reasons why they left their home and came south. We can only hope that they will not bring change.

Charlotte Observer Misinterprets Election Day Message

Leave it to a Charlotte Observer editor to completely misinterpret this past election. Mr. Taylor Batten wants us to believe that the spanking the Democrats received in November was due to a lack of bipartisanship in congress:

First, with approval ratings for Congress near historic lows, voters across the country sent a message on Nov. 2. Well, they sent multiple messages, but one of the main ones was this: We're sick and tired of Washington politicians putting party before country. We're fed up with Congress' failure to address the country's urgent challenges, from jobs to deficits to wars to clean energy. We want representatives who can work across the aisle to produce tangible progress, not endless gridlock

He then recommends a book for today’s members of Congress:

Up to a point. Today's members of Congress need to revisit the best-selling book "Getting to YES." Authors Roger Fisher and William Ury urge people in a negotiation to see the other side as partners in problem-solving, not adversaries. They urge negotiators to distinguish demands that are flexible from those that aren't. Washington doesn't do things this way. In Washington, all demands are inflexible, all players adversaries.

Oh and some form of group therapy:

Voters have to call out extremist politicians. A nascent effort around bipartisanship is taking shape. A group called No Labels will meet in New York on Dec. 13. It will bring together people of all persuasions but who share a common goal: Ending the polarization that grips America.

Only then can we get serious about keeping this country great.

I’ve some reading material for today’s Congressman. It’s called the U.S. Constitution, Federalist Paper, Anti-Federalist Papers, and the ratification debates by the original states. And we don’t even have to attend a therapy group.

Mr. Batten did get one part right: we’re fed up. We’re fed up with having legislation shoved down our throat. We’re fed up with legislatures thinking they can create jobs, when in fact they are the ones that have caused this economic disaster i.e. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. We’re fed up with the patronage and bailouts. We’re fed up with the power grab by D.C. bureaucrats and politicians. And we’re fed up with this global warming nonsense.

There has been plenty of bipartisanship in D.C. and all of it is about conferring power to the central government. Democrats and Republicans are both guilty of this crap. Mr. Batten seems to have forgotten the number of RINO’s that went down in defeat. God willing, there will be many more bagged in two more years. We’ve seen enough bipartisanship. What we need is statesmanship.

Congressman Larry Kissell Appointed Regional Whip

North Carolina’s 8th District has been honored by the Democratic Party. Rep. Larry Kissell is charged with a very important position in the halls of our nation’s capitol. He has been appointed regional whip for the 112th Congress.

Kissell was just re-elected to a second term. Either the Democrats are low on talent from the decimation they received this past November, or they recognize greatness when they see it. The man from Biscoe has certainly proven himself adept at getting things done. He is the second biggest porker in North Carolina. The man certainly knows how to raid the treasury. I’m sure this talent did not go unnoticed by the socialist deviants that litter his party’s leadership.

So whip those doggies Mr. Kissell. We haven’t officially declared bankruptcy yet.

As reported by the Union County Weekly:

Congressman Larry Kissell will serve as the regional whip for the 112th Congress, after his election by Democratic members of the House from Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Kissell is one of 24 regional whips elected in the past two weeks to serve in the new session.

A whip is the official charged with making sure elected officials are present to vote on issues, while also shaping the party’s policy. Kissell will be responsible for managing the representatives from those five states.

“It’s important to me that my district has the best representation they can, and I’m honored to be able to bring a moderate approach to a leadership position within the caucus,” Kissell said. “As the 112th Congress begins, it’s important that we work together to do all we can to improve the lives of American families. I look forward to this position and will continue to work to make sure that the people of my district are heard loud and clear in Washington.”

Senator Claire McCaskill Champions Torches and Pitchforks

Senator Claire McCaskill has the audacity to lecture us on who is responsible for the huge budget deficit and monstrous debt that has accrued in Washington D.C. She portrays herself as the champion of the middle class, when in fact she and her democratic colleagues are the ones who have brought this country’s economy to its knees.

I find it funny that she goads us into bringing out the torches and pitchforks against the Republicans, when it almost happened to her at a town hall meeting in St. Louis:

Why would the Democrats parade out a woman that her constituents don’t even trust? I guess the credibility bench is mighty thin for the jackasses.

I agree that the Republican Party has done its share of damage, but the tea partiers are dealing with these RINO’s one by one. No one should consider their seat safe but, sadly to say I don’t believe it will be enough.

Our founding fathers were right about the dispersal of power. I believe this country erred with the passage of the 17th Amendment. If we are to have any control over Washington D.C. we must begin with giving power back to the states where our local representatives can control these super-legislators. Otherwise they’ll bankrupt us and the states with their unfunded mandates and ridiculous tax codes.

N.C. Legislature Scrooged Over Education Cost

New Jersey’s Governor Christie is in an epic battle with one of the most powerful special interest groups in the United States: the teacher’s union. The cost of education has become the third rail of politics with every leftist organization rallying to the call of the Horn of Gondor when the national, state or local government questions the cost. It seems the village doesn’t have enough cash to raise children in the proper way socialist see fit.

North Carolina is no different. The Charlotte Observer published a cartoon portraying the incoming North Carolina General Assembly as Scrooge. Keep in mind that this is the first time the Republican Party has gained the majority in the legislature in both houses in over 100 years. I guess you can say this is a preemptive strike.

A study by Civitas displays the cost of education:

How Much Does North Carolina Spend to Produce one High School Diploma?

K-12 public education remains one of the most talked about policy issues in North Carolina. Public interest derives not only from the importance of the task, but also the level of public spending. In the 2010-11 state budget, 37 percent of state spending approximately $7.1 billion is devoted to K-12 public education. In 2008-09, state, federal and local expenditures for K-12 public education totaled $12.2 billion on a student population of 1.4 million. The economic challenges facing North Carolinians underscore the importance of understanding how much North Carolina is spending for education and how well our institutions are performing. One question that flows from this discussion is: How much does it cost to produce a high school graduate in North Carolina?1

Methodology

To answer this question, annual per student average expenditures were gathered for 13 years (1996-97 to 2008-09) grades K-12) for the 10 largest local education agencies (LEAs) in North Carolina.2 In 2008-09, the ten largest LEAs accounted for approximately 40 percent of all K-12 students enrolled in North Carolina public schools. Annual per student expenditure figure sum state, local and federal per pupil expenditures The figures are then adjusted for inflation. Annual totals are then divided by the LEAs 2008 graduation rate. Since the costs of a diploma should accurately reflect all educational costs, the costs of those who fail to graduate are included. According to Department of Public Instruction data, 70 percent of 9th grade students who enrolled as freshmen in 2005-06, graduated four years later in 2008-09.

Data for this study is from the Education Statistics Access System (ESAS), available on the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction web site.

Are there no prisons? Are there no workhouses? Only for the taxpayers who are chained to the education boondoggle, and the socialist utopian dream.

Nigel Farage Chews EU Ass

Nigel Farage, the British bulldog, is my new hero. If you want to do some ass chewing, send in the master. This diplomat is about as undiplomatic as you can get; and might I add fun to watch. His rhetorical flourishes are a combination of rapier and sledgehammer. And you can just see the Euro-weenies squirm when the double fisted Brit takes the podium.

Call it like it is Mr. Farage. It’s encouraging to know that at least one person in the U.K. has a pair between their legs.

Nancy Pelosi Took Us into a Whole New Direction

Nancy Pelosi led us into a whole new direction alright.  That was the only promise she kept as Speaker of the House.  Corruption, arrogance and partisanship was the hallmark of her tenure.  The only ethical thing she did was censure Rep. Charlie Rangel in the waning hours of her stewardship.  And may that last act symbolize the Democrats stranglehold on the 111th Congress.

Good riddance!!

Charlotte Observer Pimps Welfare for Chronically Unemployed

The editors at the Charlotte Observer have bought into this nonsense that unemployment benefits helps the economy. They quote the voodoo economics of the Congressional Budget Office, a supposed non-partisan entity created by Congress in 1974:

The Congressional Budget Office estimates that every $1 spent on jobless benefits generates up to $1.90 in economic growth. Further, the nonpartisan CBO analyzed 11 options for generating short-term growth - including reducing income taxes - and found that extending jobless benefits was the most effective. (Cutting income taxes was least effective.)

So why hasn't the lame-duck Congress gone ahead and extended the benefits, as it has routinely done in the past? Some 2 million Americans face the end of unemployment checks. More people now have been jobless for longer than 26 weeks (when regular unemployment runs out) than any time since at least 1950. That isn't counting the millions whose checks have already ended, which happens in North Carolina after 99 weeks

I would like to know how the $1.00 in jobless benefits generates $1.90 in economic growth. That makes absolutely no sense to me. You have to take away money from those of us who actually work in order to pay these people.  The Disturber continues:

The answer is that Republican leaders need a bargaining chip with which to pressure Democrats to extend the Bush-era tax cuts permanently, for all income levels, even the wealthiest. Never mind that doing so is expected to add $3.7 trillion to the deficit over 10 years.

Yes, the same deficit hawks who don't want the government to spend $56 billion through 2011 for the unemployed are happy to pile trillions onto the long-term deficit. Apparently not all deficit-creating measures are created equal.

The Charlotte Observer believes that taxing the rich is the answer to all our problems. They fail to see the outrageous spending by the Federal Government coupled with burdensome regulations as the real culprit to our economic woes. No they would rather attack the people who actually create jobs. I’ve never been employed by a poor person; nor have I heard of industries forged by government bureaucrats.

The Republicans are willing to extend unemployment benefits as long as there are cuts somewhere else in the budget. The editors at this august paper fail to mention that; instead they parade out a “victim” to demonstrate the callousness of the GOP. I personally do not trust the main stream media. ABC was just busted for lying about just such a victim, when in fact she is an activist:

Good Morning America's Claire Shipman on Thursday tried to disguise a Democratic activist as just a jobless American who would be hurt by Republican failure to extend unemployment benefits. Shipman sympathetically recounted that Edrie Irvine, who she didn't explain spoke at a Nancy Pelosi press conference on Wednesday, "never thought her very livelihood would depend on a political debate in Congress."

A graphic reading "unemployed" appeared onscreen as Irvine complained, "They are talking about tax cuts for the rich and are holding people like me hostage." Who is Ms. Irvine? According to her bio on the leftist Democracy For America web page, she's a "tree-hugging, bleeding-heart, ACLU-card-t progressive liberal and damn proud of it!"

The Observer ends it pity piece with this rhetorical flourish:

Extend the unemployment checks. All this dithering over whether they should be linked to a permanent tax cut for millionaires is unseemly.

The nation's jobless rate remains painfully high at 9.6 percent. Joblessness in the Charlotte region is even higher: 10.2 percent, highest among the state's large metro areas and higher than the 9.1 percent N.C. rate. For anyone to hint that most jobless workers don't want gainful employment is unconscionable.

Extending the jobless benefits will boost the economy and help 2 million suffering households. Congressional leaders have no credible case for not doing so.

I’ve got news for you Observer; there are people who would rather game the system than have a regular job. What is unseemly is that we have people like you that want to create a perpetual underclass dependent upon government largess. Let's call the extension of unemployment benefits for what it really is:  welfare.

So Mr.Gibbs isn't afraid of a guy with a keyboard and a website?  Well, it seems that Mr. Assange huffed and puffed and blew our nation's crediblity down.  In the meantime, the Obama Administration is playing the fiddle and dancing around their house made of straw.  Denial isn't a river, it's a freakin hurricane.

Democrats Arrogance on the House Floor

Democrats have shown their arrogance and contempt of the opposition party on more than one occasion on the House floor.  Does anyone remember Rep. Jack Murtha shoving through a bill that was vociferously opposed in the chamber?

The 111th Congress will be remembered as one of the most imperialist and arrogant congresses in American history.  Rep. Buyer is correct.  The Democrats were thrown out of power because of their naked use of power.

Senator Sherrod Brown's New School of Economic Theory

When I think genius, I think Senator Sherrod Brown. I never would have thought that unemployed people were the engines of economic prosperity, until that august Senator from Ohio made his case. Giants in the field of economics are turning over in their graves. Adam Smith’s saying that a rising tide lifts all boats is wrong; it’s actually the anchor dragging on ocean floor that’s the propeller of wealth.

Here is the statement that is forging a new school in economic theory:

"Congressman Cantor (R-VA) either failed English class or failed logic class or failed history class because these tax cuts for the rich that Bush did twice, in '01 and '03, resulted in very little economic growth. We saw only one million jobs created in the Bush years, 22 million created in the Clinton years when we reached a balanced budget with a fairer tax system," Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said on MSNBC.

"There is no real history illustrating that these tax cuts for the rich result in jobs. It's extending unemployment benefits that creates economic activity that creates jobs, not giving a millionaire an extra ten or twenty or $30,000 in tax cuts that they likely won't spend," Brown said.

Here are the latest stats for Ohio:

Ohio and U.S. Employment Situation (Seasonally Adjusted)

Ohio's unemployment rate was 9.9 percent in October, down slightly from 10.0 percent in September, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 8,400 over the month, from the revised 5,014,500 in September to 5,022,900 in October.

"The number of Ohioans with jobs increased in September, driving the unemployment rate down for the seventh consecutive month," ODJFS Director Douglas Lumpkin said. "Ohio’s unemployment rate fell below 10% for the first time since March 2009, thanks to job gains in both the goods-producing and service-providing industries."

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in October was 588,000, down from 591,000 in September. The number of unemployed has decreased by 50,000 in the past 12 months from 638,000. The October unemployment rate for Ohio was down from 10.8 percent in October 2009.

The U.S. unemployment rate for October was 9.6 percent, unchanged from September.

I can smell that economic activity all the way down here in North Carolina. According to Senator Sherrod Brown you hadn’t better lower that unemployment rate. Otherwise you might not have an economy at all.

Rep. Larry Kissell 2nd Biggest Porker in N.C.

Congressman Larry Kissell in his first term as representative of the 8th District of North Carolina managed to raid the U.S. treasury at a tune of about $42.5 million dollars. He ranked 2nd among N.C. house members in sponsoring earmarks for the fiscal year of 2009. That is quite impressive for a freshman legislator. He has proven himself a veteran at pick pocketing the American taxpayer. Here is an excerpt from the Charlotte Disturber:

Kannapolis' earmarks are sponsored in part by U.S. Rep. Larry Kissell, a Biscoe Democrat who just won re-election to his second term. Kissell was No. 2 among North Carolina's House members in sponsoring earmarks last year, with $42.5 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks money in politics.

Kissell's spokesman said he would continue to support earmarks as he's able.

Larry Kissell loves patronage. He sees himself as a modern day Godfather passing out favors to those who are willing to kiss his ring. I guess you can say this is organized crime; a crime against future generations of Americans who have to pay for the indulgences of politicians, and others who connive for federal largess.
