Liberal Newspapers Lament Lack of Moderates in Republican Party

Not one time have I, or any conservative that I know of, lamented the lack of moderates in the Democratic Party. To me a moderate is someone who will sell you out in a heartbeat just to gain a vote. That’s why I’m amused when liberals lecture Republicans on their dwindling numbers. We don’t give a crap what Democrats think. But that doesn’t stop them from meddling in our affairs.

The Charlotte Observer is a case in point. They constantly worry about the state of the Republican Party. Their handwringing is laughable. Especially, since their editors are a bunch of card carrying communist. Today, the Disturber featured an op-ed by another lunatic lefty from the New York Times. Some may have heard of him. Chances are many haven’t. After all, who reads that rag besides liberals? Anyway, his name is Joe Nocera. This is the same man who called the Tea Party a bunch of terrorist for their opposition on raising the national debt. Here is an excerpt from the handwringer bemoaning the state of the Republican Party:

I'm rooting for Rick Santorum to win the Republican nomination. Seriously.

You probably think that is because it would be the best possible outcome for President Barack Obama. No doubt it would be. If Santorum were the Republican nominee for president, the independents disenchanted with Obama would come flocking back; their fear of Santorum's unyielding brand of social conservatism would far outweigh their reservations about the incumbent president. A Santorum nomination would likely lead to an epic defeat, ranking with Richard Nixon's 49-1 state landslide victory over George McGovern in 1972, or Ronald Reagan's 49-1 state whipping of Walter Mondale 12 years later.

But it's not the Democrats I'm really concerned with. It's the Republicans. For more than a decade now, moderate Republicans have been an endangered species, either losing elections or choosing to retire in the face of a hard-line challenger. The latest casualty was Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine, whose dilemma - caught all too often between her moderate beliefs and pressure from the party to vote the "right" way - was described poignantly by Jonathan Weisman in The New York Times on Thursday

Mr. Nocera follows politics for a living. So you think he would know what is going on with the debates and how the issues come about. But you would be wrong. Here is another excerpt from his article that demonstrates how clueless or disingenuous this guy is:

In the article, Weisman quoted a number of moderate Republicans lamenting the way the Republican Party is now placing a higher priority on social issues like contraception than on pocketbook issues like jobs and the economy. Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey, noted that many Americans, disenchanted by the poisonous state of American politics, have largely opted out, and that "only the most rabid partisans vote." In other words, the Republican Party has largely been captured by its most extreme flank. Santorum is their standard-bearer.

Everyone knows that the contraception issue didn’t come about until the Clinton toady; George Stephanopoulos brought it up in a debate. Everyone was surprised. No one was talking about this issue at all. It was Democratic operatives and the actions of the Obama administration that brought about this issue; not Republicans. But Joe Nocera would have us believe that Republicans are obsessed with condoms and birth control. What a joke.

Liberal newspapers like the New York Times and the Charlotte Observer should obsess over their dwindling subscribers, instead of how many “moderates” are in the Republican Party. Or at least have some courtesy by not insulting our intelligence.
